My very first ever cross stitch done in 1991. Bought this and the bluebells as kits and done them both up at the same time. Mum had these in storage and showed me today 13 May 2007.
Cross stitched pieces I have finished over the years (and remembered to take photographs of).
From 1993 onwards. Current calendar year's finishes are in its own album.

This is cool. I like it
That's a fun picture!
Mariann
Thanks guys. It was a real pain getting the threads and the fabric - not to mention the actual chart. But once they were all here, it was a quick little project to stitch! Thankfully I have leftover thread and the chart and can easily sub the fabric as I've been asked to make more copies for other friends :)
Love it!
Thanks! Its such a cute one to stitch too - and I do adore the colours!
Wow!! Congratulations! She's beautiful!
Oh Mel...beautiful stitching and (believe it or not) I almost chose this one to stitch for my daughter for Xmas!!! Great job...
Pennie its a quick stitch and very easy - I had a ball with it - except for the {insert bad language here} French Knots. If I'd have just put the beads on immediately it would have been finished the night before :)
Meowy is back from the framers :) And I finally have a framed pic of Mayet :) More pics going up on this album on Xmas Day as people open their presents :)
Neat plain frame. Purrfect :) to quote Paula !!!
So glad to see that I am not the only one going for the kitty stitch. I hope to start mine tomorrow.
Stitchy New Year!
Love the floss, love the fabric, great gift! Lucky guy!!
Great finish. Did she love it??
A Wonderful match to go with the Egyptian male!
You have some fabulous finishes this year!
I lovvvvvvvvvve this piece! Great finish and a happy New Year!
Thanks ladies for all your kind words! Mum apparently liked Iuaa as a mate to Mayet and P adores his P. Its now his pride and joy apparently :) Livres will be kept for myself.
Very lovely Mel! Awesome finish!
Stephanie
Looks lovely, she does! Great finish, Mel! And it was worth to pick a bit of Cirque's time to finish her off!
Thanks Steph and Mariann !!! As someone else said, once you get that close to finishing its very very difficult to put a piece down again ... so I didn't :) Hmm first finish for the year and third finish in five weeks - not going too bad for me! It'll slow down now while I concentrate on the BAPXS.
Great job, Mel! She looks much better now that she has a head. :)
Todos los has bordado tú?? preciosos!!
Chelo
Hi Chelo, I don't speak Spanish, but if the Babelfish translator is any good then - thank you! I did stitch these myself and thank you for calling them precious!
She is lovely.
Wonderful. You did a great job.
Wow Gothy! I love the framing on this....she's a beauty.
That was the first piece I ever got professionally framed - back in 1992 - 3- 4 ???
I'm actually looking at the same frame for Rhiannon ..... but I'm just not 100% sure ......
Okay, Mel, the funny thing is, we framed our Earth Angels in the very similar frames!! I've actually stitched this one twice. Once for myself and once for my SIL. Here's mine: http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/photo/1348682483070252573kFOifO
Oh wow Laura - we certainly did! Your framing is gorgeous !!!!!! more elegant than mine !!!!
Wow, very similar and so elegant.
What a lovely gift!!! great finish, loving the bead placement, in fact, love the whole thing :)
Awwww thank you!
Lovely lovely work! What a nice gift!
Thanks Stephanie - I'm so glad that Sisu loved it after all that :)
Adorable! Don't cha just love these little inspirational quickies?
Great finish!
Very cute - great fabric!
Lovely. Really fast work.
what a cool piece, Mel! nice work!!
Thanks all - it was a cute little distraction piece while I was at mums :) And I'm very happy with how it turned out. Much more vibrant than the cover pic of the kit. I need to do more of these Moonflower Colourscape kits :)
loooooooove that
Thanks ladies - I love working on Patti's Smallscapes - so small but so much colour and vibrancy ...... this one is now at the framers .....
Very pretty!
Cha-Cha-Cha!
:0)
Kitt
Very pretty!!
I hope Claire's happy with it - I've never done a band sampler or some of those speciality stitches before!
This is wonderful.
Wow, beautiful !! Make me want to start mine
Thanks Tim - and it was dry and sunny enough today that I could replace the picture here with a better one too !!!
Thanks to everyone else who commented - sorry that the comments disappeared when I changed the photo over !!! eeep !!!!
looks great mel, you did a good job
thanks so when are you finishing yours ?
I love it :) It looks fab! and the deliberate mistake I made , it's staying there as it made us both laugh so much. It will become a fond memory in time LOL
Deliberate ???????
But yes, definitely a fond memory :) :)
It really looks lovely now its finished.
Thanks kay!
Gorgeous.
It is lovely.
Very pretty and quite an advanced pattern for a first time stitcher!
It was very nice of your mom to bring these to you so you could add them to your finished projects!
Happy Mothers Day to you and your Mom!
:0)
Kitt
Very pretty!
:0)
Kitt
Thanks Kitt!
That would've been very ambitious for my first project - well done! And it's nice to see a design that you did long ago that doesn't look outdated; I guess roses and other florals, simple ones like these, will always be timeless :)
You did a great job! Never would guess it was your first project!
Very pretty! Good job on this one too! Isn't it fun getting a chance to look at your early work?
What a pretty one :) I remember the days of "framing" them in those nasty little plastic frames....oh for the simple life again when those little frames appealed to me and framing didn't cost an arm and a leg and maybe a kidney too!!
Oh that's so delicate! lovely work for a "beginner".
If my blackwork piece/s come out looking half as good I will be a very happy Dragon indeed!
Lovely Mel & what a lovely return gift!!
Pretty & I agree with Claire - the cost of framing eeeeeeew. I love good framing to compliment beautiful work!!
Thanks everyone - the girl that was teaching me was doing up a Lavender and Lace Angel at the time - so I thought these kits *were* beginner steps. I went from these to doing up Earth Angel as my very next project. Then quite a few engagement, anniversary, wedding and birth samplers that I've never seen again and then a hiatus from 1994 until 2002 and then the first finishes back in were William in the Window and Oliver Otter ..... and the rest is history ........
what a very pretty piece! My first piece is nowhere near as lovely!!
this one is so sweet!! how lovely to get them back from Mum so you can enjoy them.
Thanks everyone for your kinds words on my first projects - they are currently hanging in my library/guest bedroom.
Nice choice of mat and frame to compliment the stitching, was that your choice or hers??
Lovely finish!!
Lovely framing job
Very nice
Thanks Nancy - the choice was mine. If you look carefully you will see that all three of them (Tut, Mayet and Iuaa) all have the exact same frame. They are also the exact same size :)
You've done well, Mel! It looks really lovely.
"Deliberate" mistake, Claire? If that were the case you'd call it something like personalising or re-designing, LOL! Besides that I don't see any mistakes on it...
lovely.
Very nice combination.
Great finish, Mel! Mum must be quite pleased.
How cute!
Wow! This one really framed up prettily.
that is lovely!!!!
Thanks ladies for your kind words - they were all fun projects to stitch up ...
Looks wonderful Mel!!
That's adorable!! Great job!!
Thanks Shawn !!!
Very nice, Mel! And at least on the photo there's nothing to see of the bleeding colour! Glad you got by with a a mere *warning*, LOL!
Very nice Mel - can't even tell the colors bled a bit....now this goes higher on my wish list!
Lovely Mel! Congrats!!
Gold star SG! It looks simply wonderful
Very cute! I love this desing!
Congratulations. It is gorgeous.
Absolutely stunning. Now there's another one to put on my wish list AND ITS ALL YOUR FAULT.
Very very pretty :)
Oh kewl! More credit to me!
Hugs
leM (Australian operative)
Thanks all for your kind words :) I really enjoyed finishing this one - and I enjoyed spending last night without stitching :) :) Back into Faïence tonight ....
It looks fantastic, Mel! It has moved further up the wish list now, thanks to you! Big Snoopy Dance for you!!!!
It looks great Mel!!! Congrats on finishing it!!!
Congraulation, Beautiful !!!
Looks great Mel
Oh this is beautiful and I love the quote!! The fabric is perfect...great work Mel.
Very pretty! What thread is that?
I like how this one came out, Mel!!
Very nice!!
Thanks all for your lovely comments. Jamie the thread is "Auntie Dee" by Crescent Colours. http://www.moonflowerneedleart.com/html/smallscapes_15.html
Oh I love this one! But I will confess that I would do it in Siamese colours :-)
Feel free! I'd love to see this one done in a variegated thread too - such as if it was a calico cat :)
Lovely finish Mel!!
What a friendly-looking little dragon! Very pretty!
Beautiful finish! I'm happy dancing for you!
He's soooooo cute.
Beautiful, simply perfect. Lovely colour choices even if I do say so myself :)
Yup, mine is prettier but this is so elegant and swirly.
He's such a cutie, I love his face and the wings are amazing.
lovely little dragon Mel
I like your page man...
well how did you like it?
Looks great
He came out so cute!!
Awesome stitching! I love the thread you chose for the design!
Yes, and the way you made the shading match on the wings. Very cool. Good job!
Thanks everyone - I think the two dragons came out well together. The charts are off to mum next for her artistic abilities and then they've been promised to Paula.
Lovely Mel, very cute!!
What a beauty! love how the body shades upwards to the reds and then pale greens again for the neck...wonderful.
Adorable, Mel!!
Thank you ladies!
Thank you ladies - with variegateds I usually let them fall where they may - but this time I specifically chose my placement - can you tell how pleased I am with myself {LOL} It took me sooo much longer to stitch this because I was watching my placement ....
Well worth the extra effort Mel!! Great job...Renee thinks it's very cute too! :)
Thank you Shawn and Renee :)
Very cool shading, I agree! Worth the effort.
It looks great, Mel! Congrats on the finish!
Wow, Madam Headless is done! How'd I miss that?? Weird...lovely work, honey!
She looks fantastic Mel! Are you planning on doing all 6 and Henry as well?
I'm not sure how you missed it - maybe I posted it when you were off sick or something? She was finished 22 January - my first finish for this year!
Thanks Hilary - yes I am planning on all six, plus Harry 8 plus his daughters Mary and Lizzie - then I will get them all framed at the end. Hmmm - seeing as I got Madam Headless finished Jan 2007 I'd better do her replacement in Harry's affections in Jan 2008 ......
Great job! You did a fabulous job with the color placement.. and I'll look forward to more "Tales" after your holiday!
This is great I'm sure she loved it.
and I love it!!!!! Still trying to decide where it will be shown to the best advantage! I love it, I love it (oh and did I mention I love it AND the sneaky Gothy who stitched it for me!)
Wow he looks stunning! Hmm picking a frame for this one could be interesting!
Oh, very nice. I like this series of charts, and ought to do the airplane one for my dad....
I LOVE your party cat! He is the cutest thing ever....and he is done just in time for a New Year's party!
Thats not blackwork!! I thought you said you had the blackwork ones.
The blackwork charts *and* the cross stitch charts for the same designs are in the same issues. I therefore *have* the blackwork ones - but I haven't stitched them yet :)
Beautiful work and great framing! I wish I was close enough to use your new framer!
It looks great. Hey Hilary, dont bother to find a place for it, just send it on to me. I've got plenty of empty walls
Nice work, Gothy!
Looking fwd to seeing where this one is hung :) What a lovely gift.
Wahoo! The squiggleyz are done. Congrats, you. Poor old PC, he looks so confused LOL.
OH, Mel, I LOVE how this came out!! The different stitches really make it great!
Very cute little cat!! All those squiggly's look like what most will feel like on New Years Day after all the partying!!
We had a quiet one last night - didn't even make it to midnight - fell asleep with the needle in my hand {blush} But there was a *huge* party a few doors down that went on until 4am - I bet some of them will be feeling very squiggly when they wake up today!
We are staying in tonight too, Happy New Year to you already!!
I love your party cat. He looks like a fun project.
Anna Teel
Yes, it is lovely, and I love it! Thanks Mel!
All well done WTG!!!
This is stunning Mel! are there any more in the same style?
Yay!!! Very pretty finish!!!
Yup - check out the Szulet Creations link I put in with the picture - there's about a half dozen of these.
First finish of the year, congrats! may there be many more :)
Very pretty Mel! Congrats on your finish!
Lovely Mel, congrats on the finish - hope this cures your frustration!!
Lovely work! I love the simple elegance that this picture has. Just wrap it up and I'll be happy to hang it in my living room.
{LOL} That's the third offer I've received today :)
its a quick stitch - so you just never know :)
Now that looks pretty
Not exactly a BAP, LOL! Congratulations to the successful frustration cure! And the finish, of course :-)
That looks really good. Congratulations hun.
Very stylish pattern!! And a fast finish, hope that spurs you on to more!!
Beautiful, Mel. I love it.
Looks great Mel. Would look wonderful on my wall
Just lovely!
Lovely simple framing for both pictures:)
Lovely simple framing for both pictures:)
This is great. Simple and yes effective.
This is great as well.
They looked great framed. Simplicity suits them
The simple framing compliments both pictures beautifully! Congrats!
Love the frame with this piece!
Yep, I agree -- the simple framing for these pieces really lets them shine
Both are great
Love the framing on both, elegant!!
Beautifull, do you have this pattern for me please
viviane.luypaers@telenet.be
Thanks in advance
Viviane
Sorry I don't share electronic copies of patterns. This was in a back issue of the UK Needlework magazine. 1994 edition I think. You will have to find a copy of the magazine.
YAY!! Came out so wonderful!!!
Nowhere near as wonderful as *your* finish this week !!! Way to go Karen !!!!!!
Lovely finish Mel, congrats!!
It's turned out lovely, Mel! Congrats on the finish!
great finish congrats
It is lovely.
Taking this literally - why not? LOL!!!! It's really a fun piece. What I like most is that you put such a subversive little thing into this kitschy little doily, ha ha
LOL !! I believe the first comment I received was "yes please !!!"
I have also been informed that it would not be taken adversely if I chose to stitch the whole set as future presents ......
What would Greant Aunt Maude have to say about this I wonder?
LOL Poor Great Aunt Maude might surprise you, Jim! She may have been the one who said "yes please" {giggle}
My grandmother Mildred would probably have a heart attack were she alive to see these. My Grandmother Williams, on the other hand, would probably have to lecture on the origins and uses of the "F" word :)
As mum says my grandmother would have conniptions and be really red in the face (my nan wouldn't even discuss sex or periods - oooh she'd hate my previous blog entry too then).
My great Aunt Enid - grandfather's older sister would have seen the funny side, according to mum.
Well what do you know, Great Aunt Enid used to make and sell bikinis when they first came out in the late 1950s. Family tidbits that come out over breakfast conversations .... oh and she production line made them at home .... mum remembers from when she was still in primary school.
LOL, this is great. Love that you put it on such a cute little doily too.
Oh, Mel, this is so YOU!!
Thanks .... I think ????? Ummmm .... {Mel wanders away scratching her head}
This really is great.... I can think of lots of uses for this!!!!!
I think DH wants a set of these for his bar!! LOL
LOL !!!! I could see that !!!!! I think the recipient of this one would like a complete set for dinner parties too :) :)
