Well done you! I will confess this one didn't jump out at me - but it will be nice to see it done :-)

Looks great! That is a lot of calculating :) I may be happy that I won't be starting this one until it is way over so I can start wherever.

Nancy Murdock said...

I am excited for you! And for me, I have all the last of my Chatelaine kit on its way and can't wait to start! I have alot of silks in Tuscany, I may have to check those Mother of Pearl rings out.Hope you managed to do your figuring correctly!!

Michele Anderson said...

What a great start! And way too much math for me, I would of done the 3 down and 3 in thing especially after all the math I did on The Nativity! LOL!

Melissa Hicks said...

Chele - I couldn't do the 3 down and three in as I still have other bits to do outside this border .... Paul woke up just after I posted this pic so I didn't get any further yesterday - I'll do some more tonight after work and hope that my calculations were correct :)

Hilary, This kind of medieval illumination based design really really *does* jump out at me! I have about five others in a similar style all beside me here on the desk clamouring for attention ...

Karen R said...

MMM, those rose/mauve silks on the right are gorgeous! OMG - I just said I liked pink colors!! Please tell me they are more red or purple than pink! I don't want to turn into my mother :(

Karen R said...

Great start! Have you used NPIs before? I have a few from my old Silk of the Month club, but haven't used them yet. When/if I get to a Chatelaine that uses them, I'll just have to see if I use them, or use the DMC conversion, or Vikki Claytons, maybe....

Paula Hubert said...

Great start, Mel! I'll enjoy watching this one!

Michele Anderson said...

This one is going to be gorgeous! It is one of the ones I made myself ignore - BOTH times she released it! Yea me and will power!

Is it out? I love this! Oh my...

First of all, you have to understand I'm a total addict to Vikki Clayton's silks, but having said that, I'm using NPI on my St. Germain. The picture in my album makes it look an icky gray but it's really a very light green overdye (can't remember if it's Silkweaver or PTP) with NPI's forest green silk. I really like it. It doesn't shred like the One That Shall Not Be Named (Krienick). And where did you find a Silk of the Month club at?

Melissa Hicks said...

They indeed are - the colour right on the end is called Bordeaux and it is much more a deep red wine colouring. I will be using it to fill in the rectangles here in the border once I have checked that I have the border situated correctly :) :)

Melissa Hicks said...

Yup - I have - in the two other Chatelaine's I've started (and not yet finished ..... moving right along).

I really do love the NPi silks - I would replace every single DMC with NPi and use NPi exclusively, if I could only afford to do so !!!

Melissa Hicks said...

Yup - it was released again last month and is only available until June next year (12 month class) after that it will be put away for another five years. Martina has said she will never release this one as a chart. Its one online class every five years.

The Yahoogroup is here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/chatelaineonlineclass-seventeen/
The kit can be bought here: http://europeanxs.com/online.html#castle_sampler

Come join me - I hope to have the July part finished this week and the August part finished next week (unless Laura's RR turns up in the meanwhile).

Donna Williams said...

So I don't have to join right this minute? I can't afford it right now, but I know in a month or so I will be able to. Keep pestering me and when I can afford it, I will get it. Doesn't mean I'll stitch it, but I'll get it.. LOL

Michele Anderson said...

You had to go and say it was a whole year project! I will probably wind up getting this one now since I don't have to pay for the laptop. It is just so pretty to not get.

I might have some $$$ the next time this one comes around, since I am determined to get MTM, Mystery X, and Tuscany this year - just the charts alone for those three ought to spend every penny I have for stash for the rest of the year; the kits are so far off my radar right now - I don't even want to consider them at this point. But I have to have the charts, so I can be prepared for "someday" when it finally arrives :)

Melissa Hicks said...

I'll pester you by posting updates and it will look too beautiful for you to resist any longer :) :) I might even get it completed this way too !

Melissa Hicks said...

Hence why I skipped Tuscany and Mystery X ..... {LOL} You never know - Santa might pop a little something in for you.

Debbie Lord said...

Lovely start Mel!!

Kayle Jensen said...

Nice start Mel!!!

Jamie Vander Eide said...

Good start, Mel! The mother of pearl ring looks very pretty also. :)

Mariann Mäder said...

I would do the same, I love them so much!

Since you can't nicely pull out threads of these skeins I do it like Mel does though and cut up the whole skein in threads, then make a knot (fold them in half and once more, then do a loop knot to be able to just pull them open) - but those mother of pearl rings ARE simply beautiful!

Shawn Medrano said...

Wonderful start Mel!! Congrats on doing the math!! I'm not a math lover; so I know what a pain it can be. :)

Melissa Hicks said...

Awww thanks Shawn - unfortunately my maths were out an inch horizontally - so I've shifted everything to the left an inch. I'll see the vertical tonight when I get home ..... but I suspect I might be off on that too ..... which would be a bigger pain as I've already done the top row now and I'd have to unpick it all and start completely from scratch again ....

I'm a librarian - not an accountant :) :)

Susan Padilla said...

Hi Mel, Your work is gorgeous, you should be very proud!!
I read on BAPS that you usually start in the middle. I do too, but I am about to begin TW's Woodland Faerie and it is one that says to go page by page. I don't get how to figure that out or why I can't start in the middle. Do you have a link that I can use?
Thank you,
Susan

Great start Mel....math...what's math?!

Kerry Dustin said...

Looking great, Mel.

It looks great, Mel! the colors of the Rhodes stitches are really pretty. Congrats on getting the 1st part done!

Donna Williams said...

Oh... it takes stitches I don' t know how to do! It's looking good, but now I'm a wee bit leery of it.

Melissa Hicks said...

Don't be leery of it - Rhodes stitches are *easy* to do and Martina gives good instructions - and anyway I'm here! I'll help!

Natalie Mikesell said...

It is looking great Mel! Rhodes are so much fun and I LOVE the way they look :) *sigh* My supplies for this one call out to me...but I am too busy to add this start on.

Karen R said...

Very pretty - the colors are so subtle...

Karen R said...

Gorgeous so far! I like Rhodes stitches, too - very quick!

Claire EJ said...

Any funky stitches you don't know, perhaps I could show/teach you next Spring?
I adore all the funky drawn thread stitches.

Paula Hubert said...

Beautiful work! The Rhodes stitches look great, and I love doing them, too :)

Mariann Mäder said...

Looks very nice, Mel! And well done on already finishing the first part! I love Rhodes stitches, too! Even if you have a bunch to do they're very fast...

Pennie Boots said...

I love it Mel. Seems like your math turned out to be a-okay. Great job. =)

Melissa Hicks said...

Thanks everyone! I've already gone straight on to Part 2 and I'm loving it so far ... I hope (crossed fingers) that I can finished part 2 in time for a Sunday update ..... {insert fervent prayers here}

Karen R said...

Oh, I can't wait to see!!!

kay jones said...

Very pretty so far. Am now persuading myself that I dont need this one; or do I?

Melissa Hicks said...

You need this one! Wait til I finish Part 2 !!!!!

Debbie Lord said...

Lovely Mel, hope your health issues have gone.

Meg Lark said...

Good job, Mel! I'll be interested to see this one develop, but frankly, I'm glad I haven't added it to my already burgeoning stash -- I'm feeling guilty enough over the Chatelaines that are calling to me. Feel better soon!

Melissa Hicks said...

Tanks Meg - I feel the same about Tuscany and Mystery X :) :) So I completely understand. I'm only doing the ones that *really* call out to me :)

Pennie Boots said...

Great work so far Mel...your needles must be smoking. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Shawn Medrano said...

You are moving along nicely on this one Mel! It looks great!!

Michele Anderson said...

Oh very nice Mel! I think I have myself retalked out of getting this and the limited edition of Just Nan's Lady's Scarlets Secret Garden. I came -- this close to getting both of them a couple days ago and decided to wait. I was also interested in doing the Mystery SAL in The Gift of Stitching Magazine but the fabric alone is over $60.00 and I really don't know if the sampler would look 'right' on a ivory or white - which I have a ton of already. I guess I will wait and see some posted progress pics before I rule that one out completely. If I decide to do it, I will go with the Vikki Clayton thread pak.

Melissa Hicks said...

Thanks Chele - I should have progress pics of that one up by the end of the month too :) :)

Stephanie Flynn said...

Well done! Very nice!

Melissa Hicks said...

Thanks ladies, and welcome back Dr Steph - is your neonatal rotation over now?

Karen R said...

Simple, but to great effect - wonderful!

Karen R said...

Looks very cool so far!

Terri England said...

Looks great.

Paula Hubert said...

This looks great! I'm glad I know that the finished piece doesn't call very strongly to me, or you'd be tempting me beyond belief!

Kayle Jensen said...

This sure is looking pretty!

kay jones said...

Looking very pretty. Do I have the time and effort to add yet another Chatelaine?

Melissa Hicks said...

Now why would logic like that stop you :) :)

Claire EJ said...

Ooh, pretty edging!
