I'm still at the kitting up process of this design.

I still need:
Kreinik No 8 Braid: 329
Kreinik Cord: 012C

2-3 Amethyst & Mother-of-Pearl Hearts
4-5 Quartz & Jade & Mother-of-Pearl Stars

I asked Michelle Ink (the designer) about these beads and charms and she said "the hearts and stars are small 1/4" beads that i had found in my stash.... "

This is going to be really cute! Wish there was a better picture...

Here's the only ever other picture I can find of this on the web:

Urgh....so they could be donkeys years old never to be seen again.

Nothing like that in my beading stash so can't help there....sorry:(

I think I may be able to assist with a couple of the hearts - let me take a peek tomorrow night in my stash and I'll let you know!

That looks blurredly lovely, Mel! I'm coming in late here, but I'll definitely be there if you have questions :-) Looks like a LOT of serious counting will be needed for this one, but also if you go wrong by a couple of threads you won't have a problem in the end :-)

rather your eyes than mine to do those stitches on 32ct, LOL! But lovely materials. That Abalone colour looks a bit wild among the others, but what a nice contrast!

:Love the colors!!! Unique pattern, but that's you!

Actually I'm going to need my hand held through some of this one. It requires hardanger which I have never done .....

Anita B said...

Nice design, and great start, Mel!

Paula Hubert said...

Great start! I can't wait to see more :) And you'll find the hardanger isn't that difficult once you get going on it. Besides, there's lots of handholding available, too!

Thanks everyone - I think its more that the instructions in the chart are very poorly designed. I just don't know what is supposed to go where.

I'll get back to the this when the Kreinik braids turn up.

Does the cover pic help clarify the directions at all? Once I figure out where something goes, I still often need that visual confirmation that it is right, as well as in the right spot... and then that's assuming the stitched model uses the same stuff you're using :}

Nope! The cover pic is taken on such an extreme angle and is sooo out of focus that it cannot help with colours let alone placement.

After the inkwell that I've stitched above, then we have the lines of ink coming out. These need a Kreinik braid which I'm waiting on. Around and through these lines are tiny little one off stitches that are supposed to be tiny stars or glitter coming out of the bottle. I can see where these stars are to be placed. But I have no idea if they are to be crossed stitched in one or all three of the Kreinik BFs listed in the materials pack or if they are one or all three of the beads listed in the materials pack or if they are to be stitched with one of the other threads.

The placement is on the chart - but there is absolutely NOTHING that indicates what I am supposed to place there. And the cover pic is taken at such an extreme angle and is so fuzzy that I cannot tell from that either!

Well, I guess you'll just have to do it the way you want - this is the designer that doesn't have a website, right?

Melissa Hicks said...

Yup! I'll have another look after I move. Busy packing and resting my eyes to get too worked up over it right now ......

Paula Hubert said...

Makes sense to put it down now while you've got all the other stuff to deal with. But you have a good eye - so when you come back to it, use whatever looks good to you!

Pretty colors, Mel! It looks good so far!!

Thanks Laura

Looking great! Know what you mean about hardanger - actually cutting the fabric always scares me to death.

Great progress! This is very pretty and very colorful!

Karen R said...

Wow - that's looking really neat!! And your klosters look just like all of the ones I've done on that Autumn Pillow - I'll post my update of that one tomorrow :) What thread is that dark one, the two overlapping blocks of klosters??

Anita B said...

Very nice, Mel - I didn't realize this piece has the various stitches in it, but they are looking great, and add a lot to the design. Very nice work!

Melissa Hicks said...

You mean the two diamonds in the middle? That's Caron Wildflowers Abalone.

Melissa Hicks said...

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

Love the use of different threads and stitches, a really interesting piece to look at!

Stephanie Flynn said...

What a neat pattern this is. Looks like a lot of fun!

Melissa Hicks said...

It *is* a lot of fun Stephanie! I'm a bit nervous about the Hardanger but I love the rest of the specialty stitches I am about to learn :) :)

Milly Dunaway said...

Nice progress...so colorful.

Karen R said...

Abalone to the Lust List... Wonder how close that is to Vikki's Paua Abalone or whatever it's called...?

Paula Hubert said...

Oh this is definitley looking like fun! I forgot it had quite so many different things going on. Congrats on the progress!

Melissa Hicks said...

And I haven't gotten to the specialty stitching yet :) :) Thank you Paula - you are the one who encouraged me to work on this and now I'm having extreme difficulty putting it down .....

Trish Froggatt said...

Wow - this looks great! Way better than on the chart. Love it and can't wait to see more! Cheers
