Its a Willie Nelson moment ....

"just can't wait to get on the road again ....."

Yep I'm moving to Perth :)  Two interstate moves in six months! Hopefully this will be the last for a while.

There are a variety of reasons:
  1. Stephen and I need to be in the same place to make this relationship work.  The distance is not helping anything.
  2. All recruiters and research say I am more likely to get a good job in Perth than Melbourne.  Perth hasn't been hit so hard in the GFC,
  3. Until we get two incomes again, it is going to much easier to fund one household without all the duplicate payments of rent, electricity, telephone, ISP etc.
  4. Stephen's in IT - his workload ebbs and flows and at the moment its freaking insane.  The sooner I can over there and support him, (emotionally and domestically) the easier it will be on both of us.
We're still yet to sort out the details and timings. I'll keep you guys up to date as things progress but there are practical timing issues, and financial issues, I'm breaking lease, when can we line up removalists, affording bond and rent on a larger place over there, moving both of us, him finding time to view houses and of course making sure this move is easy on Trubs :)

Hope it goes well my friend. You deserve a little luck and peace.

I figured you and Jen would definitely understand why we are making this move now :)

Completely. We did the long distance thing for over three years, it had it's good moments but they no way made up for the seperation. I'm glad for you.

Speaking of she who must be obeyed, I hear a stirring from the bedroom, have to go fix the breakfast. We've both had some form of lurg, my turn to look after her now.

Good luck with working out all the logistics! It sounds like this will be a good move for both of you (and Trubs too! )

From what I've heard of Trubs, she probably was reading over your shoulder and has already lined up her little kitty belongings and is ready to go!! Sounds like this will be a good thing for all three of you. I hope Perth works out well on the job front!

I hope everything works out well

I have only a handful of words to comment, Mel: Best of luck to both of you for the logistic problems of this! I think it's certainly reasonable.

Trubs is going to have her own two cents to add, which would probably be somewhere in the line of: I'll get to be with Stephen AND Mel - what more could I want? They'll see to it that all my needs are taken care of the best way possible :-)

Hugs!

I've already put in my 2 cents worth (although being me...it was probably 5 cents worth). You're making the right decision for all the right reasons. Bit of a no-brainer baby. We'll even help you pack (damn..now it sounds like I'm trying to get rid of you) :-)

Good luck with the move Mel! I hope that it goes as smoothly as possible for you both.

Certainly does sound like a "no brainer" Just not paying for 2 households is a biggy! Hope things all go smoothly and things return to *normal* sooner than later.

A very sensible move. Its not totally true that two can live as cheaply as one but it certainly is much cheaper than living in separate households. Its time you two guys got together. Long distance relationships are ok in the short term but they do tend to suffer long term (says from personal experience).

Good luck with the move. I imagine Trubs will be delighted with the idea of living with Stephen (not sure she will want you to move in as well tho:)). I'd offer to help pack but my bike has a puncture at the moment.

Good for you. May your move go well.

Well I put in for two more jobs today so we will see how it all goes. Just hope they don't want me to start in the next two weeks :)

Thanks everyone for your kinds words :)

Good luck with the move and the plans. I know this is a stressful time for you but sometimes things just have a way of working themselves out.

Mel - sounds like a logical plan. I wish you luck in your move and peace in starting your new life...the three of you under one roof!

Mel I have just tried to email you and it has come back undeliverable. It's about the phone call.

Melissa Hicks said...

Thanks so much today Janine for letting me pick your brains about the local area !!! And the extra you and Jacob did tonight - wow! and thank you!

You are so welcome. I am so excited that you are moving over this way. Can't get you over here quick enough as I know you don't like daylight savings and we go to the vote in May. Well truthfully I wont mind your company as well. LOL Looks as though after the 3 year trial it is not looking good for it being bought in. If it doesn't, I wonder how long it will be before we have to trial it again. We West Australians are a bit slow and I guess the powers to be will keep trying until we get it right and they approve of the answer.

Melissa Hicks said...

Woo Hoo !!!! Oh I completely forgot that! You guys are only trilling Daylight Savings - god I hate it so much !!!!

Yayyyyyy! Yet another positive !!!!!

Unfortunately in this case "approving the answer" does NOT mean "getting it right" :)

Mel, I do think it will be better for you Stephen to be in the same place. You're still on my list and I'm hoping things will work out the way you'd like them to.

At least you'll be leaving those can crashing neighbors behind. It sounds like a good plan. Keep us informed!

Stephen viewed a house last night that we both liked on the net. Apparently there are no hidden surprises so he's putting an application in for it this morning.

If we get it, I will literally be a couple of minutes walk from http://www.coloursdownunder.com.au/shop/

Apart from that, we are still looking for affordable movers for me.

Janine Smith said...

Yippee!!!! Fingers and everything crossed.

Sorry dear - didn't get the place. Only having one income went against us.
