The Castle

OK this is really a chance to have a play and make sure I can upload pics into my blog again ....  The pic on the left is my original attempt on 22 ct Aida.  The pic on the right is my new attempt on 32ct Jobelan.

They both look terrific Mel - a couple of questions why did you pack in the Aida one and why did you decide on 32ct Jobelan?

The 32ct looks more concise, more real picture like if you get my meaning LOL.
Love both fabrics and soooo glad you can get pictures up again.
Sanity has been restored.

Hilary, I packed in the Aida for 2 reasons:

1. trying to do fractional stitches on 22 ct Aida was painful! More than painful! And this was the 2nd or 3rd piece I had ever started, so my tension was all over the place - the stitches themselves looked lumpy and didn't fit in the holes properly.

2, Although you can't see it in the scan, the fabric has been stained. I left this on a set of scroll rods for many years and the fabric on the roll stained from sun and hands and dust and and and ... I tried everything but I could not clean it. And the stain would have showed clearly when it was finished.

So for reason 2 I had to start again and for reason 1 I decided on an evenweave. I chose a 32ct as it is the size I now prefer to work in - its smaller than 28ct so my coverage is better, but its bigger than the 44 count so I can see it easier these days.

Mum's Earth Angel was done on 22 ct Aida .... I preferred it for the intricate look it gave designs, but these days I prefer evenweave and just a touch larger :) plus also the hand dyed fabric I chose was only available in 28 or 32 count at the time I bought it.

I chose Jobelan because it gave a better contrast of colours in the hand dying. The linen looked more muted. Well in the couple of pieces I had on hand to choose from at the time. I assume each dye-lot is different.

And yes I now have my sanity - it was really annoying me that I couldn't put my pics in my blog - I *like* doing it that way :)

That is a really pretty fabric for that design :)

Well, I'm glad you like doing it that way! I just wish I could see them! I can't see any pics that are posted IN a blog. Some I've managed to chase down, but so far, I haven't managed to find these...

I have not decided on 32 ct or 28 ct yet. I like the color.

Hey jstitcher,

Choose what you feel comfortable with stitching on :) One thing about this design - it will look drop dead gorgeous regardless!

Thanks Tracy! I'm thinking I might start work on him again on New Years day - I've pretty much decided to keep Dragski out of my rotation and simply work on him the first week of every month, so that will start the 1st to the 7th of January.

I hope I'm not complicating myself too much.

I blame Claire - I'm thinking of him as Dragski now!

Hey and LOL...go find your own name .....
What I can't remember is this....is mine Dragski or Dragula?
I think he was originally Dragula after Count Duckula whose cartoon I always adored.
But latter years , we've tacked "ski" onto the end of so many things, I'm pretty sure that the name Dragski will stick.
It's the Russian influence LOL.

Yeah a few years ago, I think around the year 2000 there was a habit going around when ski was added to the end of everything ....

I'd forgotten that!

Hugs
Melski!
