The trees in the front yard and the driveways have all been cut up and moved to the edges of the roads now. Haven't been removed, but have been cleared enough that you can drive down the roads now :)

The backyard still looks completely the same as these pics.

Yikes! Those are some pretty big trees in the road there - good thing none of the big ones around the house fell! Trees fall like that here when we get heavy rains - between the clay on the granite underneath, the root structure here is pretty shallow, and most of the power lines and whatnot are above ground, too, because of the rock, so power failures are pretty common here for even less severe weather. Though, since we are in a desperate drought at the moment, I would welcome some rain - we are currently 9" short for the year, growing every day. And we've had lots of storms, but they aren't producing any rain, just lightning strikes to start fires. We need a good, non-devastating hurricane to come through and dump some water on us.

Glad the damage wasn't worse in your area; mudslides are scary business - another reason I wouldn't live in California...

Sounds like a tumultuous week! I'm so relieved to have known that you and the kittypet came out unscathed. And as to balance out raging storms and blechy flu, your new job has come through. You've been deserving that reward for a long time now. So when the damage has been all cleaned up, you'll be settling into a new routine. I hope this job wasn't one you mentioned with the hellish commute (even so, that is probably preferable to your current one ;-).

PS, I would love to loan you my laptop. It gets so warm on the bottom that I can't stand to have it in my lap. It would keep you warm during your power outage. You'd just need to sneak off somewhere to recharge the battery every few hours. LOL.

Glad you and kitty are OK. Looks like a lot of work to clean up. We had a pretty bad storm two years ago and lost both of our trees in the backyard. Power was out for 5 days, so lost everything in the fridge and freezer too... Hope it won't be too much longer for you to get your power back. Congratulations on the new job!!

Thanks everyone, the council will be around to clear away all the fallen tress at some point, and the back yard is an insurance job for the landlady so that will get cleaned up when the insurance guys say so :) :) I hope hope hope the electricity is back on when I get home tonight. Running on an extension cord from the neighbours, I wasn't game to use more than the three things for the computer on it at once. But God it was good to get back in touch with you all - especially when I had such great news to impart !!!!!

Tracy, thanks for the offer of the laptop - I sure could have used its warmth :) :)

You can't tell really from the photographs, but the trees on the front road were over a metre thick at the base, and yes Karen they were in less than a foot of soil covering a huge rock - the rock you can see behind the roots in the pics. So its not really surprising they came down. the residents of our street are trying to get the Council to come out and look at the rest of the trees and remove any others that are growing in similar conditions, but apparently there is a two-year wait on such services .....

Paul and many others lost power over the weekend too. Although everyone else I know but me {sniff} now has power back on, we were all in the same boat on the weekend!

And the power came back on this morning. Energy Australia were re-stringing the cables across the road and up to the house before I left for work this morning !! Yay !!!!!

Heating and lights tonight !!!!

Oh, good for you! There's nothing worse than cold kitty paws when you are already cold! We're expecting a book report... :)
