SAL - This Heart of Mine

This Heart of Mine - by Tracy Horner of Inkcircles Designs

A SAL Mum and I decided on, on the spur of the moment this evening while both discussing various ways of working this design.

Mum's pics can be seen here: http://denndragon.multiply.com/photos/album/27/SAL_-_This_Heart_of_Mine

Now this is a very different floss toss to Denise's ....very dramatic...but no surprise there given who will be stitching it!

I like it, a lot.

Hmmm looks like a stunning floss toss!

Claire EJ said...

And the colours are??

Melissa Hicks said...

Starting with Caron Wildflowers 012 Wildberries - one strand over two on 32ct Black belfast linen.

How cool is that - 3 different brands, and they all look like they were made together :) I guess I don't have enough stash - I've never had a floss toss like that?!?! That kind of decision would probably send me to my room for two days, but the Wildflowers are gorgeous!

Looks great! Really vibrant colors - this is going to be very cool. I don't think I've seen this done on black yet!

Wow a great start Gothy!

Claire EJ said...

Wildflowers look great on the black! Neat colours!

Melissa Hicks said...

Thanks all - it certainly is striking. Three of the four colours were gifted to me by Paula - so that made the floss toss so much easier. Yeah I hadn't seen THoM done in anything so striking so I thought I'd give it a go. The actual pattern stands out more on mum's version. On mine, the eye is drawn more to the blobs of colour than following the pattern around. I'll see when more is done ....

It's often that way with this kind of design... Give it a little time and it will start to take shape.

Mariann Mäder said...

They all look so very similar, Mel, especially considering that there are three different manufacturers involved...

Mariann Mäder said...

Very nice choice! It does look vibrant on black!

Gina Martin said...

Bright colors! Gorgeous start.

Great colors in this one. This is the effect I am looking for when doing Dessins Black Lace!

Melissa Hicks said...

I warn you Nancy, I cannot stitch on this for any length of time before my eyes go on me. Even though its a simple design, the floss and fabric combo *is* hard on the eyes.

Hilary Syddall said...

Wow if you were out and about then I reckon you have done loads! and it is looking stunning, the colours really stand out on the black!

Paula Hubert said...

This looks great! I knew you'd do something fabulous with those colors :).

Too beautiful! I need to stop wussing out when I pick my colors. There is a certain logic to it, I suppose, but I always pick a tamer option and leave the real stunning versions up to folks like you, Mel. I'm trying... on my last few visits to Carrie's I've left with a trul multicolor to play with (not just a mostly monochromatic color). You are an inspiration to us all!

Claire EJ said...

How can you say "not much done"? Looks great in those vibrant colours and makes mine look incredibly boring.

Lyne-Elizabeth Blodgett said...

Oh - this is going to be stunning when done. I wish I had the eyes to do things on black!

Karen R said...

So pretty - I think I need to use my Lumiere de Cheryl on something black, when I get Bouquet done....

Melissa Hicks said...

Where *is* yours honey - I looked and couldn't find it in your albums ......

Mariann Mäder said...

Really lovely, Mel. And not so bad on the progress side at all I'd say! Keep this up, you're doing great!

Trish Froggatt said...

Looks great! I love those bright colours!

Claire EJ said...

buried deep somewhere.....possibly never to be seen again....Remember the 28ct debacle which I only found when I realised the stitches felt too big...that was THOM....Doubt if I will finish it as I was so upset at the mess.

Melissa Hicks said...

Time to start it again then!

Frishawn Rasheed said...

I just love the colors that you chose for this!

Claire EJ said...

I know....Seeing the optician on Saturday and hope she can work out my watering eye. If that gets fixed, I should be able to stitch again.

Paula Hubert said...

This is really beautiful, Mel!

Melissa Hicks said...

Thanks everyone, I actually got some stitching time on on Monday so I'm catching up to mum really fast !!!!!

Melissa Hicks said...

Oooh definitely keeping my fingers crossed - let us know what you find out please ??????

kay jones said...

Ooooh lovely colours although I dont envy you stitching on black. Do have some in my stash tho so just might try something soon. Off now to see Mums.

I know what you mean about specialty floss on black fabric... Safari Sunset is Söckli's favourite "blanket"... can't leave that one out at all :-)

This is lovely, Mel! I really like your colours and I think it jumps right out of the fabric. For that kind of design it works really well!

Claire EJ said...

The colours look so good on the black! great work.

Debbie Lord said...

Gorgeous work so far, love the speciality fibres LOL!!

Meg Lark said...

I have forgotten -- are you working this with a variegated floss, or are you putting in all those fantastic colors yourself? It looks stunning!

Gina Martin said...

This is SO colorful! I love it!

Karen R said...

This is looking really fantastic!

Natalie Mikesell said...

Those colors are looking great Mel!!

Jamie Vander Eide said...

Love the colors on the black fabric! A little progress is better than none at all. :)

Stephanie Flynn said...

THis looks great! Love how the colors pop on that black fabric.

Nancy Murdock said...

Fantastic colors Mel, will have to check out the first photo and see if you told us what kind of floss you are using.......

Melissa Hicks said...

There's at least one variegated floss there Meg and Nancy :) :)

The middle motif is done with Caron Wildflowers 012 Wildberries - one strand over two.

The start of the corner motif is actually a different thread. Its Vicki Clayton's Blackberry. Two strands over two.

Couldn't tell could you :) :) :) :)

On 32ct Black Belfast linen.
