WIP - M Designs

A direct scan from the cover of the chart. Its very light and very small.

This is an album for all the M designs word charts that I have stashed - I thought they would be good projects for the train or when I get frustrated with whatever else I am working on.

Well, I like it so far, but if it's not what you were aiming for....

Well that's the conundrum :) It certainly does not look like I thought it would, but on the other hand I think I'm going to like it like this ... but part of me wants the one in the picture ....

This stands out nicely against the fabric you picked - I would be inclined to stick with it, but if you are not sure maybe you should do a floss toss and find something you prefer.

Pretty Mel but I agree it looks nothing like the colour on the cover pic!!

I agree it doesn't look at all like the cover...but I love the colors you're using. In fact...those are some of my favorite colors. I'd keep going with it this color. I think it'll be beautiful.

Love the fabric, and I think the thread is much better than the cover one. But if you are really not happy with it, change it otherwise you will just end up hating stitching it.

I like the colour - I have used a whole skein of it on Japanese Garden and it is brown/grey/green and very unflattering in the skein. When it stitches up, it gets subtle and it does grow on you. It's a bit of a bridesmaid colour - overlooked in favour of more glamorous shades!

I rather like the color too. I'd look to see how it matches the beads and charms before changing.

Melissa Hicks said...

Steph, they all match! The beads are bronze colour and the star is topaz - they are all in the same tonal range ....

To be quite honest - the colour is off on a blue fabric... Martina uses a lot of Mississippi Mud on Japanese Garden and I know the colour from there. Was this the colour that the chart prescribes? Sounds odd to me. At least on a blue-ish fabric.

Besides - the colour on the cover definitely has a much more blue-y hue, doesn't it? I'd probably change to something blue :-(

Pretty picture. I think that the
T/G~M~M is not the right one for it.

Hmmmm - honestly? I'm not sure what I think of this yet....

I don't think that's the right one either. But good stitching.

I like the thread you are using!

Thanks everyone for your comments! I received an email back from Mary of M designs last night. She says that I am indeed using the right floss and fabric combo and it should look "better" when I add a few beads and the star.

She also tells me to feel free to change the combo and let her know what I use instead. So I'm still flummoxed and unsure what to do. Maybe I should add in a few beads and finish another letter or two and see if it does make the difference as she suggests.

Yeah, I would hate to give up, because it isn't an absolutely hideous combination, in which, oh yeah, change it. So I guess maybe I would vote to go a little further, do a couple of beads, and then, if you really, really don't like it, then decide whether to frog and replace or scrap it and start over with some other floss.... If you didn't have the picture as your reference, do you like it at all? I do, but then, I had no expectations....

Thanks Karen, That's my dilemma - it is an odd combination but I *think* I like it. However, it is not the combination I saw on the cover so it does not match expectations.

I'll do some more and see how I feel on it then.

Mind you, don't hold your breath - sleeping has replaced stitching for me most of this week .... and the obligation pieces are mounting up so I wont be back to this one for a while ....

I feel like you do, Mel.. and maybe doing a bit more and adding a few beads will indeed help. I really like the fabric, and I like the floss - and the combo of the floss and beads with the star sounds great. I know it wouldn't be the first time that I thought a designer was nuts until I was well into a piece! :)

But if you don't like it....that really is what counts.....I like the floss colourways....not so keen on the fabric though,....I think it should be brighter...or maybe lighter...

I'm sure it will look much better when you have done a bit more and added some beads,. If anything its the fabric which is out. Would be better on something much paler.
