Dropping off the radar

Looks like the removalists are coming Wednesday and Trubs and I will be flying out Thursday this week.

So goodbye Melbourne {sniff, sob}

My stuff will be packed and going into storage so it will be me, Trubs and a suitcase on the plane.

Needless to say I will busier than a {insert crude metaphor of choice here} and will be mostly offline for the next while.

Have fun all without me and don't get up to too much mischief, especially not anything that will make me jealous :) :)

So sudden! Have a great flight and I hope everything runs smoothly for you. Let us know when you get settled in there. ((hugs))

Thingas are not running smoothly - the removalists pulled out on us at 7:3-pm last night. After giving us assurances all afternoon they sudden;y discovered the job was bigger than they thought and they couldn't fit it in.

Grrrrrr ....

Ringing a few other companies this morning. Poor Mr Bears has been at work all day yesterday and all night .... I believe may well still be there :(

Did these removalists (we call them movers in the US) not take a good look at your household before they said "Of course we can do this"? IDIOTS.

Melissa Hicks said...

That's the problem when four people get involved and messages get passed around. Stephen spoke to one and said yes its a whole household but the majority will be books.

That removalist thought "oh well if a couple of books are the only issue then we can do this easily. Then removalist 2 rung me and got a full inventory of my home and took quite some convincing that I have over 3000 books - requiring around 50-70 boxes to pack them in. *AND* the rest of the normal stuff in a full house. I have 30 cubic metres of stuff.

Removalists 1 and 2 finally got together at 7:30pm and decided {insert expletive of choice} they cannot do this afterall!

Hilary Syddall said...

Oh flip! not what you need! I hope another firm can sort you out soon.

Karen R said...

Well, how do they charge if they didn't actually come have a look? Granted, the only time I've had professional movers was at the government's expense, but still, they had someone come look first, to pre-plan packing materials & truck requirements and tell me what I needed to have done beforehand (had a waterbed that had to be drained before, etc.)....

Melissa Hicks said...

Right we are back on track. Have another company lined up to do it tomorrow. Will be more expensive but still get done!

Take it this took some typically Gothy arse kicking? How is Trubs coping with all this and are you going to cope with her annexation or defection to Mr NTB once you are all cohabiting??

Melissa Hicks said...

I've got to get through all the stress and anxiety of:

1. Housing her in a friends place Wednesday night (who already has four cats)
2. The plane flight Thursday morning
3. The cattery for an unspecified period of time - probably a few weeks - while we find a bigger place and get all the furniture moved over.

And then moving in and cohabiting with me and Mr NT Bears. I suspect by this time occurs, she will have resolved NEVER to speak to me again!

Sisu Lull said...

I am guessing she will be either mightily pissed off at you, or by the time you bring her home, she will be so grateful for the 'rescue' that you won't be able to pry her off, LOL. Just make sure when you do get the chance to pick her up from the cattery to take her home that Mr. NT Bears is NOT with you or she will think it was his idea to rescue her and your fault he didn't come sooner.

Tina Starke said...

She'll probably show you how grateful she is by peeing on your keyboard!

Melissa Hicks said...

keyboard, shoes, new carpet .... not mention so lovingly shredding my face with her claws :) :)

Tina Starke said...

Hugo climbs legs (covered or not) and licks your face :)

Mariann Mäder said...

And during all of that she'll be flattering Mr. NT Bear and act like he's her only true friend :-)

But I'm still glad you're going there and get together. That will help you to set up a routine while looking for new work and a new home. I'm sure it will be worth all the efforts in the end.

What happens to your flat in Melbourne? Can you get out of the rental contract?

Janine Smith said...

Oh No My heart goes out to you having to house her in a cattery. I would take her here but not sure that the 5 I have would like it. I can just see everyone of them having spack attacks.

Just caught up on cyber life, hope the move goes well and with as little stress as poss.

Still can't believe I can't squeeze in coffee before I go..Stupid job getting in the way of my social life, I don't know why I bother ....Oh that's why. Seriously, as you know, a week where I actually HAVE a solid schedule is a bit of a freakish occurrence. Who'd have thought? Must organize a legit reason to travel to Perth for business (I'm sure the office in St Georges Terrace would benefit from my wisdom)

Melissa Hicks said...

Well I could open an account there and then complain a lot ???? {grin}

Melissa Hicks said...

Ah yes - Trubs is NOT a social animal. The only place I would even consider placing her that has another cat is mum's place. And only then because Trubs and Hemm lived together when I owned them both. I wouldn't inflict Trubs on any other household with existing pets. Nor would I upset Trubs that much :(

Melissa Hicks said...

Didn't get as much accomplished today as I hoped I would have :( But no matter I'm giving up and heading to bed soon. My eyeballs are hanging out of their sockets and I have another loooooong day ahead of me tomorrow.

Melissa Hicks said...

OK turning computer off now to pack it up - catch you all in a day or so .....
