Morning all, Just a quick update as I am off out the door to work again. Not much to report this week. Lots of hectic work - not as much packing as I would like and bugger-all stitching. Here's one night's work [Sigh]
Yeah, I've also been really tired this week - so yes stitching is de-stressing me and allowing me to relax to sleep. Just block-filling in colour is almost meditative .....
Trust you! ROFL.. I don't think he beheaded either Catherine, though. The first one was the Spanish princess, the second was Catherine Parr... although, ya know.. maybe she WAS the second one that was beheaded... hhmm...
Yes this is Catherine of Aragon the first wife. He left the Catholic church and created the Church of England so he could divorce Catherine to marry Anne Boleyn. Catherine Parr was the last one, she outlived him.
The way to remember the wives is: Divorced, beheaded, died Divorced, beheaded, survived!
Wife 1: Catherine of Aragon - divorced because she only produced a girl - Bloody Mary.
Wife 2: Anne Boleyn - beheaded because she made powerful enemies on Henry's court - she also only produced a girl - Elizabeth I.
Wife 3: Jane Seymour - died from septicemia a couple of days (hours?) after giving birth to Edward VI.
Wife 4: Anne of Cleves - divorced. Apparently Henry thought she was too ugly. she lived on at the English Court being given the status of Henry's sister for another 9 years! All the wealth and privileges of a monarch without actually having to bed Henry! Sounds perfect! Then when he died she was kinda thrown out and destitute, died penniless etc.
Wife 5: Katherine Howard - beheaded. OK Henry was in his late 40s, ugly, disease-riddled and wanting bed a 17 year old wife. Any surprise she was charged with adultery and beheaded?
Wife 6: Catherine Parr - Henry finally gave up trying to father any more kids and lived with Catherine as a companion until he died. Catherine died a couple of years after Henry. She went back to her first love Thomas whatisname and then died in childbirth. She was in her early forties.
Oh Gods...a history lesson at oh dark thirty...thanks love...just what I needed......You just carry on stitching and I'll carry on teasing you :) Smooches,
And if I hadn't recently read The Virgin Lover and several of Jean Plaidy's books, I'd have been lost much sooner! I had forgotten about Catherine Parr. Plus, I've been searching for the Windsor family name prior to WWI. Saxe-Gotha.. something.. English history is just SO fascinating!

Catherine is looking good Mel! And you have a lot on your plate with moving and all :) I am amazed that you can get in any stitching at all.
Me too,,,,but Maybe Mel needs to stitch to de-stress...all the work, the packing up, I'd need to do something to not think about it all.

Saxe-Coburg?? something like that, from Prince Albert, Queen Victoria's Husband.
