Oh I hurt

Well I know the walking to and from is doing me good .... my legs hurt.

I was fine until I got to work this morning ... then sat for 30 mins at my desk and then went to stand up.  Ooooh my legs ache.

Well I know the walking is obviously making some difference!  Now to watch the scales ...

Oh and I know I've landed on another planet.  I listened to the 6:00am news this morning and the *only* news story was something called a "Brownlow Medal".  Apparently there's nothing else going on in the rest of Australia or the world today ....

That has to be a good thing seeing as it's all gloom and doom here.

If your legs hurt, it's a good sign. Your calves will be developing lovely lean muscle as the walking eats up fat! Cool!

That's what I'm hoping - so I walked home this afternoon too ....

Get the exercise in while its available, free and the weather is suitable .....

Perfect! go you!

Some encouragement from the scales would help the motivation - another reason I didn't buy the waffles today .....

Just take care that your boddy doesn't simply exchange the fat for muscles - won't do much for your shape then, LOL!

But over all, muscles are always better!

Oh, and do forget the scales, because they will only be discouraging. Better watch the width of your clothes leaving more and more space. I've found nothing as counter-productive as weighing!!!!

I have that much flab hanging off my frame - that even converting it *all* to muscle would still be slimming :)

Its also helping my moods and helping me sleep - all good things :) Now just to keep it up ....

I hate scales. They always lie...or whine.
As M says, watch how your clothes feel on you....that will change and give a much better indication of how your weight it.

Ouch to the legs! If you don't see a difference on the scales soon you may see it in your clothes (smaller size anyone?!)

Don't forget though Mel, that muscle is heavier than fat. So the scales may go UP as you convert. In the beginning anyway. So as Mariann suggested, pay more attention to the fit of your clothes.
(says she who just saw a truly awful pic of herself and would like to lose about 40lbs)

Yep - definitely pay more attention to how you feel and how your clothes fit! Otherwise you'll want to tear your hair out! And a wise person once said that it takes 28 days to create a routine - I believe it with all my heart!

The ache will pass - enjoy the benefits! :)

Yep - when I went to basic training, my weight increased by close to 15 pounds - but all my civilian clothes, when I got back to them, were really big on me, but tight in the shoulders - and that's after wearing baggy fatigues for weeks... ANd I can guarantee it wasn't the outstanding food service.

The aches will ease off with more use - just be careful sitting down on and getting off of the toilet; I've almost done stuff YouTube-worthy when I've done too many squats or lunges in class. And that is NOT a good thing....

Walking a 1/2 hour a day, 5 days a week can do wonders Mel. I agree with every one else, forget the scale. Besides, it takes about three weeks of walking before you really start to notice anything. Keep going!

Melissa Hicks said...

I must be nuts - I altered my routine this morning to include two floors of stairs at the end (instead of using the lift).

I must be doing something right - in the last two weeks (since I unpacked the scales) I have dropped 3 kilos.

Will wait to see what sort of impact if any this has on my upper body, or if I'm going to end up with fantastic calves and still a slob flab upper body .... if so I will probably join the work gym after Christmas.

Melissa Hicks said...

Thanks for all the encouragement - I am starting this in the best time of year (early Spring). Please continue to encourage me as time goes on :) :)

Forgot to congratulate you on abstaining on the waffle. Don't know if you have Bio-Freeze over there, but it's wonderful for muscle pain. The physical therapists use it to massage you after they're through putting you through hell.

Melissa Hicks said...

I'm not going through hell - I'm *just* walking! No lunges, no squats .... just walking :) :)

I guess that's why I was surprised when my muscles started getting sore ...

I reckon this weekend will involve a long warm bath (with nice smellies) followed by a pint of ice cream!!

Melissa Hicks said...

For you or me? I no longer have a bath - nor enough freezer space for a pint of ice cream :) :)

Paula Hubert said...

Oh a gym at work?? I *so* miss having a gym in the office building - I had two jobs that had that available, and it was so easy to get in a workout 5 times a day, usually at lunch time!

Claire EJ said...

No bath? really? that's a shame.
I'm heading off for a good soak any minute.

If I seem to be missing at times, it's cos I no longer have a mouse and am useless at using those silly flat finger tip panels on the laptop.
Hoping Steve can fix the mouse pronto.

Melissa Hicks said...

I'm hoping Steve can fix the mouse pronto too - was about to send you a "you alive" txt if I didn't see messages from you this morning .....

Claire EJ said...

PMSL..
I'm alive but the mouse is indeed deceased.
Cheese would be useless at this point.

Melissa Hicks said...

Oh good - pass the cheese this way - it will go with my whine ....

Claire EJ said...

What kind of Whine is it today?
Need to know so can adjust cheese accordingly to suit.

Melissa Hicks said...

The I have no space in my house, my kitchen is useless and now the freezer part of the fridge has packed it in!

Also with a small dollop of I don't have enough money and this isn't helping my finances ...

I got paid today and my take home pay is *less* than it was at the last job. I'm forced to pay nearly $200 a pay into Superannuation. Its part of the criteria for working here ... so I'm $200 a fortnight down on what I expected and a heck of a lot more up on bills ...

So I can't afford things like shopping for meat every day or two to cook for dinner. I can't afford to buy fresh ingredients every couple of days because I can't freeze the leftovers ...

I also don;t have a grill - I have to pan fry meat ..... and even if I could afford a separate freezer I have no where to put it!

Blah - winge rant rave .....

Claire EJ said...

Blimey....so whoevere chose the house for you didn't do such a great job then, sigh....sighs....
Will the landlord replace the freezer or is this your own one? Sighs...

Claire EJ said...

Thinking you need a good strong cheese here and a very full bodied red with a good vintage.

Melissa Hicks said...

ummm I chose the house .... and its my freezer.

So it is all my own fault :) :)

{shrug} It happens.

Melissa Hicks said...

A nice strong cheese would be nice - but I don;t drink reds ..... howabout a creamy cheese and a fortified red instead?

Claire EJ said...

Fortified red? Port?
Goes with cheese...um, a boursin would go well or something of that ilk.

Sorry bout the freezer, it's a real PITA.
House looked so good in the pictures, but I suppose you never really know until you live there.

Melissa Hicks said...

Yup exactly. Didn't really think about the height of the kitchen cupboards or notice there was no grill. Didn't see pics of the laundry at all.

Luck of the draw when you buy over the Net :)

Also wasn't expecting my freezer compartment (small as it is) to pack it in right now either ...

Oh well - live and learn.

Claire EJ said...

Ok, so if things do go to plan and you and the man can live together at some point, you'll know that this will not be your first home together...you'll have to look for somewhere new and exciting for the both of you to share....
Once again the universe has it's sticky little palms in making choices for you.

Melissa Hicks said...

We were always going to look for something new and exciting :)

We had already agreed waaay back that I would not move into his place, and he would not move into mine - we would instead get an entirely new place together that is ours.

And yes having both lived separately, we have two housefuls of stuff to combine when we get that far - so yes it will be an experience ...

unless more of my appliances break down between now and then - the clothes dryer does not look happy tonight either ........

Claire EJ said...

Ugh, treat the appliances with a little love. Talk nicely to them and offer them treats if they work well for you...sounds mad but works for me :)

Melissa Hicks said...

I usually just tell them to work or else :) :)

It will be fine in the end .....
