Such sad news - he's been a favorite author of mine too for a looooong time. I don't know which is worse - losing your mental faculties or watching them erode over time, knowing the progression of the disease. I'll have to re-read The Hogfather again this Christmas season. (It's an xmas based discworld story - quite entertaining, as are all of his.)
Man, that sucks. And I've had the Discworld series on my To Read list for years, but haven't read any yet - my library doesn't have the complete series locally (though now that we have state-wide borrowing capabilities, maybe that's no longer an issue). When our new library opens in the spring, and I'll have to pass it twice a day, I think I'll start them. Ought to be just about out of books in the Pile by then.
His humour is a mix of Brit and Australian so I'd love to hear how you go. Personally I always recommend people start with Guards Guards as it is my favourite early book and the first in one of the miniseries.
All the books are written in the same universe but some are complete stand-alones and others he has three or more books revolving around the same group of characters .....
Yep, what Claire said - although I admit my first word started with a letter a bit earlier in the alphabet...
We've been collecting his books because he's a favorite of both J's and mine... and we often find ourselves quoting lines and cracking ourselves up; and some of the folks who don't read him really think we've gone 'round the bend!

I'm lost, maybe I should be......?
The words "Its not Fair" are a link. Click on it. Bad news about one of my favourite authors.

Ah the news about the great Pterry - rumours on the Mended Drum are that Stephen Briggs is being groomed to take over!
Did you know they made a mini-series out of it last year at this time?
I plan to re-watch it again very very very soon. Its just going to be bitter-sweet now!
Shit.
Ditto.

So succinct and completely accurate.
