Trubs is so cute but I think she has ideas about cutting your fabric up...tight grip on them there scissors LOL.

Claire EJ said...

Good grief! You chose THIS!!!!!!!
Wow....how big is your fabric?
I know mine is huge enough and I imagine this to be even bigger.
Should prove interesting!

Rosanne Derrett said...

It is absolutely ginormous - the finished size is 30 x 38!

Claire EJ said...

Had a feeling it might be....

Mel, make sure you keep a working copy of the chart at home.
You never know what might happen with the post these days.
Would hate for it to get lost but at least you'd be able to start over.

Karen R said...

Wow - I really want to see this come together. Massive - will be an awesome piece!

Melissa Hicks said...

on 32ct its only 100cm x 80cm.

I'll try and get all the border in and one of the couples done by mailing date. Not going to promise though - just gonna try my best.

Melissa Hicks said...

You can see my Australian Test Cricket Bear in the background too :)

Paula Hubert said...

Wow - I'll enjoy seeing how this works up!

Trish Froggatt said...

All I can muster is a "HOLY MOLY" girl - is this thing supposed to be finished in 2009??

Claire EJ said...

I'd like to do some of that border and I bet the others would too.
Why don't you start wherever you need to and do a bit of border and one of the couples and the rest of us can go from there.

kay jones said...

Heavens, its not over 1 I hope?

kay jones said...

So which couple is Trubs workingon? I cant wait to stitch on this. Its adorable

Kerry Dustin said...

Oh the bear is cute! I didn't see him the first time.

Cats have a real skill for sitting in absolutely the least convenient spot, don't they? Trubs is clearly a champion at this.

I look forward to seeing your progress. It looks like a bit of a tricky design.

Melissa Hicks said...

Nope - the charts are actually quite blocky - its just that some of the backstitching might be a little tricky as they use different lines for different colours ......

Melissa Hicks said...

Nope. I hope each person in the RR can hopefully finish one of the couples and some of the borders and that's all :) So it will hopefully be a little over half done when it returns home .... hopefully. We will see when each person gets the piece - that's the beauty of a RR.

Melissa Hicks said...

Trubs was working on the border and got bored so decided to nap instead ...

Maybe if I stitch the border work up for her, she might get motivated enough to stitch one of the couples for me.

Twana Bentley said...

That sucker is huge!! It's going to be fun to watch this come to life.

Lori M. said...

I LOVE this chart! I have to go about seeing how to acquire it....

Melissa Hicks said...

Lori - not sure where it would be available - I bought it as a kit 15-16 years ago.

Hmm after a brief search.
Sew and So UK have it: http://www.sewandso.co.uk/cgi-bin/find/db.cgi?db=zoom&uid=&Prod_Code=22982&ww=on&do=search_results

And there's one on ebay - that's actually more expensive: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Pako-Counted-Cross-Stitch-Kit-Historical-Dress_W0QQitemZ280264238196QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Crafts_CrossStitch_RL?hash=item280264238196&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A3|39%3A1|240%3A1318

kay jones said...

Good grief, all that money AND its on aida!!!!!!!!

Melissa Hicks said...

You don't want to know how much I paid for it, in Australian dollars, all those years ago.

I remember lying through my teeth to my husband at the time.

So now's not the time to mention I have a much larger much more expensive Thea Gouvenour kit here too from around the same time ....

Lori M. said...

Thanks for the info Mel! I'm going to be keeping my eyes open for a sale on it. I just hate to buy kits unless I have absolutely no choice, LOL!

kay jones said...

Well, dont leave me in suspense like that.... which Thea one?

Melissa Hicks said...

kay jones said...

Oooh that one is gorgeous........ I want to stitch it......bah baw bbaw

Melissa Hicks said...

I'll send it round as an RR when this one is done then :) :) :)

Terri England said...

Trubs is so cute. Was thinking she was more on guard then stitching though. Like no one is going to touch my mommies stuff not even mum lol.

Terri England said...

beautiful.

Sisu Lull said...

It is very pretty all by itself!

Michele Anderson said...

Gorgeous!

Karen R said...

Neat!! I never even noticed the pretty motifs separating the couples!

Anita B said...

Great design - I look forward to watching this one progress!!

Anita B said...

Wow - lovely motif, and it definitely would be a nice ornament.

kay jones said...

Ooooh yes please................

kay jones said...

If thats an intimation of what is to come its going to be absolutely FANTASTIC.........

Twana Bentley said...

Yes Mel, which one? It always makes me feel better to know other people have those expensive kits just sitting there also.

Twana Bentley said...

Ohhh, that kit is gorgeous! Reminder to self: check actual page before replying from email page.

Melissa Hicks said...

Yes it is gorgeous - also daunting that's why I get the kit out, unfold the fabric, faint, fold the fabric back up and put the kit away again.

Twana Bentley said...

Yes, I know that feeling. The fabric in my lanarte kit is big enough to use as a dressing screen.

Paula Hubert said...

Ohhh - that is pretty! I hadn't noticed those motifs, either. I got really caught up in the couples!

Mariann Mäder said...

Squeeee!

Can I take dibs on the 17th century clothes? (1st on the middle row...)

Or the Edwardian ones...

Mariann Mäder said...

She's almost falling off the couch!!! Sometimes they love to lie somewhere very precariously, don't they? The chart looks pretty good to me. Did you enlarge it to the individual couples or did it come this way?

Nancy Murdock said...

After seeing this one I don't feel so bad sending my first RR out... I thought maybe it was too big.... You take the prize though.

Melissa Hicks said...

its not as big as Laura's we did last year! Claire's this year is bigger again I think - so no - I don't take any prizes :) :)

Melissa Hicks said...

Oh my!! I made Mariann go squeee :) :) :)

I will be doing middle row third from left unless anyone wants otherwise.

Mariann Mäder said...

This is a very lovely ornament for the center. I really like the frames around the couples, looks great!

I have done most of the outer frame on Random Thoughts by now and hope to get to hemming it on the weekend. Then you guys can fill in the bits you would like to do!

Melissa Hicks said...

OK - I'm a few days late. This was finished on Sunday and posted on Monday - but well its been a bit of a week. So pictures up now :)

Karen R said...

Wow, that looks great!! This is going to be so neat to watch come together!!!

I still want to do that medallion as an ornament or 6...

Nancy Murdock said...

Looks great Mel! And Karen, the medallion looks like a simple version of Martina's snowflake!

Melissa Hicks said...

I think the medallion pre-dated Martina's snowflake by at least 10-15 years. This has been in my stash since 1994 and it wasn't a new release then!

Trish Froggatt said...

This is gorgeous!! Well done - is it ready to move on yet? Cheers

Sisu Lull said...

Lovely piece! This one will be fun.

Karen R said...

Wow, that's really gorgeous!!!

Karen R said...

Kay, this is going to be such an awesome piece!!! Just beautiful!

Anita B said...

Oh, My - that's a beauty!!

Melissa Hicks said...

Such a great job Laura, thank you!

And I'm so sorry the frogs hit so hard on this one!

Karen R said...

Very nice!

Karen R said...

Coming along great!!!

Claire EJ said...

Good grief, superb progress. I love it! Thank you.

Mariann;s should be with you any day now.

Claire EJ said...

Don't any of you dare rip them out.
I love them just as they are. They look just fine to me, just how mine would look. They are difficult little sods to do. They look like they should be the simplest of things but taking the right shape isn't easy.

Melissa Hicks said...

Rats! I was hoping that would work :) :) :) :)

Claire EJ said...

Dream on girly.

Mariann Mäder said...

Looooverly!

Yes, I even don't mind the pink :-) works very well with the grey fabric!

Lori M. said...

Wow! This is really cool!

Anita B said...

Very pretty - I really like this sampler!

Karen R said...

They look fine!!! I hate 'em, too - and will either come to grips with them, or not, if that Illuminata ever gets released... :) This is such a pretty piece (for pink)!

Karen R said...

Wow, love that satin stitching on the bottom!! This is going to be stunning!

Claire EJ said...

The tiny bit I did before mailing it on to Mel.

Claire EJ said...

Green fabric....trust me, it's green...

Rosanne Derrett said...

PMSL - it is green! I have the other half of this fabric 6" from my head for Caribbean and it is GREEN. The camera decides to turn it grey

Sisu Lull said...

It looks great. Your lazy daisies look much better than mine do. I can do just about any other stitch, but those things make me say bad words, LOL.

Paula Hubert said...

This looks lovely - and your daisies look just fine to me!

Shawn Medrano said...

You did a nice job on those daisies, I agree with Claire that they need to stay!

Claire EJ said...

Hah...see, everyone seems to agree!

Hands off those daisies anyone who even thinks of ripping them out.

kay jones said...

Great work. The lazy daisies look fine to me.

Nancy Murdock said...

Reminds me of Karen's RR that I just worked on, these are very pretty!!!

Melissa Hicks said...

It was a very dreary dismal day the day I took those pics - I could not get an accurate colour shot I'm sorry.

Claire EJ said...

It's one of those weird greens that does have a lot of grey in it...Want some of our sun? I'd like to lose a little.

Laura Landis said...

Looks great, Mel! I don't see any problem with your lazy daisies. I'll be keeping an eye out for it to arrive at my doorstep.

Karen R said...

Very pretty!! I'd want to continue on on this, too!

Karen R said...

This is going to be such a wonderful piece!!

Lori M. said...

This is lovely! Excellent stitching!!

kay jones said...

I found it compulsive stitching. I simply didn't want to stop. Its looking good. What you did looks fantastic

Stephanie Flynn said...

Looks lovely....well done!

Melissa Hicks said...

Thanks everyone for your kind comments! I would have dearly loved to keep going with this one, unfortunately its already being sent out late :( Oh well, Lyne's is due any day now and I'm sure I will love that one as much as I have loved the last three!

Nancy Murdock said...

Very pretty, I love the different border stitches in it too!

Paula Hubert said...

This is definitely a lovely piece! I can see why you would have wanted to spend more time with it!

Vivienne O'Leary said...

Just beautiful! What a lovely set of round robins going round there.

Mariann Mäder said...

That's quite a bit! I'm glad you've enjoyed your part, Mel.

Melissa Hicks said...

Glad you're happy with my progress Mariann - it was quite a fun stitch, once I got the directions worked out :)

Jodie Hill said...

Very pretty!!! Looks like a lot of fun!!!

Karen R said...

Great! I love this one!

Melissa Hicks said...

This actually was quite a lot of fun - stitching up each motif as its own variation on a theme :)

Lori M. said...

Excellent stitching! This looks fantastic!

Natalie Mikesell said...

Really looking great!

Claire EJ said...

Looks super luv....Enjoyable piece of fun too.

Milly Dunaway said...

That's lovely so far! Good job, Mel!

That's quite a bit already done

Nancy Murdock said...

Good progress on it.

Melissa Hicks said...

Thanks everyone - its almost got me tempted to get out my own spot samplers and work on them .... almost.

Lyne-Elizabeth Blodgett said...

It's really coming along great!

Claire EJ said...

You know, I looked at this one and it seemed complex to me...LOL. Looks great!!

Claire EJ said...

Melissa Hicks, you are such a star!!!! Bestest stitcher friend EVAH!!!
Thank you.

Claire EJ said...

Just the three gaps now...super work!

It looks great, I love it! Thank you for doing such a lovely job on it.

Paula Hubert said...

Very pretty! Congrats on the combined effort!

Nancy Murdock said...

Great job on it Mel, close to completion now!

Paula Hubert said...

I don't necessarily think that this was all that simple. It's very pretty!

Lyne-Elizabeth Blodgett said...

This is looking super!
