Oh and in other news

I made some positive changes to my lifestyle last weekend after the bust-up in regards to diet, exercise, house cleaning etc etc.

Parts of my house are now very clean (and most importantly back to being the way *I* want things).  Paul and Dad both had a habit changing my kitchen around to suit them - so now its back to having the appliances *I* use out on the bench tops and the items *I* want to use back at the front of the cupboards in easy reach.

Probably something very psychological there :)

But the other good news is I have dropped 4 kilos (a little over 8 pounds) this week.

Yay for a great start - even if it was in crappy circumstances :) :)

Good for you - taking anything negative and turning it into a positive is just plain good for the soul! Of course, I say that, but I have a damn hard time doing it myself. That's where the pom poms come in!!

8 punds is fantastic!! I am down 4 in two weeks. It sounds like you are doing great though!!

8 lbs in a week, is that healthy? Just looking out for you!

Well I did a bit of it by moping and not eating properly so no it was not all good. But the doc is happy for me to shift up to 5 kilos a week as I have sooo much to lose. Once I get down from the "morbidly obese" range to merely the "fat" range then it will much much harder to lose the last 10 or so kilos .... and that is when it will be worrying for me to lose so much so fast .....

no cakes biscuits desserts soda/pop lollies for me this week.

salads for lunch. meat & vegies for dinner. Fresh fruit and nuts for snacks,

Amazing how much weight I lose when I removed all pre-processed and pre made foods from my diet :) :)

don't know if I can keep it up long term though :) >:)

That just shows you how pre-processed food is cheating and becoming unhealthy. Hidden salts, sugars and fats galore.

Should finally do better and get on with that as well. Still eating too much convenience stuff.

Good job Mel! I am proud of you girl. Just don't starve the weight off. It always comes back if you do it that way. In many ways, it is easier to lose weight when you are single. Nobody sabotaging you with junk food.

When DH and I did the South Beach Diet a few years back, they throw out all they processed food first thing and just eat fresh all the time. It does work and its really a lifestyle change. In this world everything is about making it simple (ie processed, fast food etc) and that stuff is always cheaper than fresh. It is hard and expensive to always buy, cook and eat fresh. We don't follow the diet to the tee anymore, but I still don't have boxed potatoes, boxed pastas and all the other good tasting sides I used to make. Also I don't have potato chips in the house. We have chips for salsa and low fat crackers. DH needs to give up his draft beers from our keg in the basement to get rid of the "beer belly". Yeah, like that will ever happen......

Thanks everyone!

Yep when my Dad was visiting - he likes to fry a lot of food ..... and Paula loves his high-carb foods like hot chips and risotto and fried rice made on white rice ...

I prefer a meat and veg approach. I don't do Atkins or South Beach but I have found a low carb approach is best for me So I try wherever possible to simplify and buy raw ingredients and make my own. Or I buy salads without dressing ... Now dinner during the week might consist very simply of of a grilled piece of meat and some steamed vggies .... but at least its healthy for me.

We'll see how long before the cravings for processed foods and hot chips and potato chips kicks in. So far watching the numbers go down on the scale has been more of a thrill than those foods would be !!!

Way cool Mel! I see you joined a few teams on SP. Is it helping you at all stay on track? I have found it is easiest to keep my diet the same pretty much all the time. If I deviate at all, I know I have the calorie room because I use the same basic foods.

Well done girl. The weight loss is great but dont become obsessive about it. Good healthy food, lots of fruit and veg and, if you really crave, small amounts of what you fancy (and no, a whole bar of chocolate isn't a small amount). Most of all, lots of interactivity with your friends on line to keep you from getting down. Big hugs coming............
