Girl porn is an accurate description of modern romance novels. There's always been a fine line between the two genres but gratutious sex scenes feature far too much in this type of novel. Romance is good but badly written sex is a hysterically funny. Sadly too much of the latter is described as the former!
Oh don't get me wrong - I love my porn as much as the next person - I just like a good story wrapped around it. That's why I want to know if these are worth reading - is there an actual plot to each story?
Diana Gabaldon is as close as I get to a Romance novel - and I personally feel she has been slighted by being categorized as Romance; she is clearly Historical Fiction. Soooo, I have no opinion. Yeah, I said it...
Ok they sound just intriguing enough for me to try. I just ordered books 1 and 2 off of Paperback Swap so they should be here within a week. I will let you know if they are any good or just sappy from beginning to end.
Love, laughter and sizzle LOL. I would have gone off and ordered the first book but as Chele has, I don't have to :) A Viking Seal...there's something odd about that but I don't think it's been done before !
The upside of me doing it - is that there is no cost involved on Paperbackswap. Kerry could probably get them via the library but the first is from 1994 and the second from 1995 so it might not be as easy as it was for me!!
I had some Border's bucks burning a hole in my pocket so I picked up Rough and Ready. The author's site says love, laughter and sizzle guaranteed. The woman knows nothing about sizzle, and I didn't find it funny. There were some cute moments maybe. It's a typical boy meets girl, boy screws girl, boy marries girl book. It's an easy read, the writing flowed nicely, but I didn't find anything to draw me into the book. Even in fluff books I like a little substance. Definitely not rushing out to buy her others, doubt if I would read any others even if they were freebies.
Have you tried any of Karen Marie Moning's books? I haven't read any of the Fever series but have tried the Highlander series. The Highlander's Touch left me drooling. I'd recommend reading that in 17 degree (f) temperature without a coat. The other 2 that I read didn't quite live up to that one, so maybe it was just the mood I was in that day. I'm a Janet Evanovitch fan, but would imagine you've tried those. Also a JD Robb/Nora Roberts fan. She only lives about 15 miles away but have yet to make it to her store for a signing.
You might want to think twice about that huge *slobbering* dog thing. We had a dane/bernard mix and that dog could clear a room faster than anything. Of course it is kind of fun to watch 15 or so guests run around the room trying to avoid a drenching. Then we had two St Bernards. There is no running from that slobber. They have a good 20 ft. radius and when they're done it's not unusual to have it drip off the ceilings.
Should I have Molly come teach Lucy how to pout properly? Complete with dramatic sighs, stomping feet and heading off to another room while muttering under her breath...
Well, maybe Lucy just hasn't reached that level of maturity yet :) She's either so happy she's bouncing off the walls, scared witless and hiding in my closet (HATES the sweeper), or asleep.
Not when they have drool strings hanging about 8 inches below they're mouth. You stand there and think that you should really go grab a towel before it ends up on the ceiling, knowing that the chances are really good that when you get about 6 inches from them the head will shake and you'll be wearing it. And I'll agree with Paula about pouting. I had 1 dog that was a pouter and another that would give you the cold shoulder and they were far better at it than my cat.

I haven't read any of them.. not sure I will after the descriptions, but that's probably just my mood right now.

Wooooo! I knew you would come through for me Chele. I knew you or Kerry would put your sanity on the line to find out. Let me know please.

I should probably look on Book Mooch....see if I can find it there.
I'm waiting on Chele's review first :)
Sorry, these don't seem like they'd be my cup of tea. While I do like romance, these don't really appeal to me.

Oh dear - sorry to steer you in the wrong direction Twana!
At least I know now not to go near them ....
So who in your mind - *does* do sizzle well?

Yup - love Evanovich and was up until 2am this morning reading the latest Robb ....
Ranger or Joe?
OOoh baby - BOTH of course :)
Can't say that anymore I seem to have found my own Joe in real life - complete with wanting a huge slobbering dog when we settle in together ...
Oh but Ranger .... I always wanted a Ranger of my own - or a Roarke (to mix up our fictional universes).

Did not say *I* wanted a huge slobbering dog :)
We wont be getting any other animals while Trubs is around - she is an old cat and it wouldn't be fair on her ...
Eep...not one for me then LOL.
But, looking at the covers, I think really I knew they weren't for me...
"he" wants the huge slobbering dog?
Yuck.
Dog drool, when they shake their heads, can get everywhere.
Slobbering is manageable - it's the dog farts that are a whole new surprise every time :(
Okay, it was 15 years between dogs for me, so I clearly got settled into my ways with dealing with cat issues, but damn....
At least dogs never pout - and they won't really let you pout, either - not for long :)
Should I have Molly come teach Lucy how to pout properly? Complete with dramatic sighs, stomping feet and heading off to another room while muttering under her breath...
I swear, she's a teenaged girl in a fur coat!
Well, maybe Lucy just hasn't reached that level of maturity yet :) She's either so happy she's bouncing off the walls, scared witless and hiding in my closet (HATES the sweeper), or asleep.
Dad's Moose does this! He has the most expressive eyebrows I have ever seen on a dog!
