This is ridiculous !!!

It's December. Why is it cold enough that I'm wearing a jacket to work and wishing for the umteenth million time that I had bought gloves this winter? I'm freezing and my hands feel like blocks of ice.

But, but....

It's summer your side of the globe!

Hence the post name of "this is ridiculous". What happened to Summer ???? Aren't we supposed to be in Global Warming (tm)?

Grumble grumble. The good news is that I did manage to make and send that post from my new toy while on the tram. See Claire it works !!!!

Karen R said...

Glad the new phone is working - it ought to after all that trouble :) Global warming was just a fad - as evidenced by the ridiculous cold here, too....

My new toy lets me view Multiply on the move as well, still getting to grips with it though. There's way more than this dumb blond will ever get to grips with though.

Melissa Hicks said...

Blond? Hmm - looks grey to me - well we know that monitors morph colours .....

I'm learning and playing and will eventually get the toy to do what I want to do. I'm not learning everything it does - I'm simply learning the bits that are useful to me :)

Jim Westlake said...

Grey? Have a care madam, that's fighting talk! lol

Rosanne Derrett said...

I'm with you Jim -that really is fighting talk! I call the silver bits my very expensive highlights!

Mel - swap you. It is rapidly decending below zero here and the frost has not left the grass all day where it is in shadow.. I would send you my fleece hat and gloves but I need them more - if I ever find the damn things!

Melissa Hicks said...

Its Monday morning here and as per usual I didn't get enough sleep - I need *something* to wake me up and get me moving.

I feel as sluggish as vampire blood ....

Melissa Hicks said...

You need them more than I do !!!!!

The main reason I don't have gloves is because I have a shocking memory. I keep thinking about buying a set so that kinda morphs into "didn't I buy a set - why can't I find them?"

This weekend I finished an RR and got it packaged to send home to its owner. I tore the place apart all weekend looking for two charts that I wanted to send to that person as a Christmas gift - so it would be easier to send them all together in one parcel.

Three days and hours of frustration later, I'm talking to mum and she reminds me that I already RAKed those charts to that person. Back in August just before the move!

Perhaps you should try some garlic! lol

Well that's in my lunch :) Gotta get from here to there yet :)

You're just having a late blooming summer. There were quite a few Junes that I spent in a winter coat and wrapped in a blanket while watching the boys play baseball.

Cause you are in Melbourne ! It is known to have 4 seasons in a day sometime. We were over 30 degree yesterday

Melissa Hicks said...

We've had four seasons today: winter, winter, winter and spring.

Its after midday and still under 20 degrees.

Michele Anderson said...

It is 21 degrees right now. We are due to have 6 - 12 inches of snow over the next 2 days too!! What fun! Have to drive to Milwaukee tomorrow for Scott's Dr. appointment. Then on Tuesday, I have a 40 minute drive to get to work - which will be more like 90 minute drive with all the snow!

Melissa Hicks said...

Ummm sweetheart - 21 degrees CELSIUS here.

Stephen Silk said...

I'm just wondering if vampires could be considered giant mosquitoes?

Melissa Hicks said...

Now don't tell that to the Twilight fans !!!!

Stephen Silk said...

Why not? Either way they suck :-)

Melissa Hicks said...

{quietly backs out of the room, taking Mr Bears cash and cards with her, and leaving him to the tender mercies of the Twilight fans}

Jim Westlake said...

Are you kidding?

We are in the warm bit of the UK and it struggled up to 8 degrees yesterday. Lows of around freezing overnight last night and a band of persistent rain later today. I'll take 20 degrees right now thank you! ;))

Melissa Hicks said...

Considering I'm used to the temperature being DOUBLE what it is now - it is cold for this time of year :)

Jim Westlake said...

If we're really unlucky the temperature might crack a little over 34 possibly 35 at the height of summer. A good summers day here would be mid to high 20's.

Melissa Hicks said...

Its not summer until its over 35 degrees.

Over 40 for a few days too. Just not Boxing Day or the day after please while I might be at the cricket ....

You can't back out of the room...it's your room! You so don't get to leave.

He's a brave man...I don't see how a vampire could ever be considered a giant mossie. Yes they suck, but they don't have wings or hideous evil eyes or buzz as they pass by your ears...shudders.

It's 5 degrees supposedly out here today, feels like much less.
Roofs stayed white all day again yesterday and are white now. It's a nasty wet frost which isn't pretty or crisp underfoot.

This sounds like the second crummy Aussie summer after last year when I remember you being cold at some weird times.

BTW: Jim is definitely blond and has the brain to prove it.

21 celcius is COLD??? That is what our thermostat is set on, LOL.
It is almost warm here today. 39 F. The 9 inches of snow we got Saturday is getting wet underneath. Not truly melting because it is cloudy. Supposed to snow again tonight. I took the kids sledding yesterday. It was 24F and I froze. I think I need some adult sized snowpants. Snowcovered jeans are not very cozy. The lake froze over yesterday, so the swans left. Supposed to take the cub scouts out caroling to some shut-ins tonight. ick. I really don't want to stand in wet snow all night.

Jim Westlake said...

Thanks..... I think!

21 is the international office standard for optimum working conditions indoors :)

Yesterday it only reached 17 here. With a really cold wind. Considering I'm expecting it to be 35-40 by now (it IS Summer) it was a bit of a shock to the system.

Of course now that I'm whinging about it we WILL have an unparalleled heatwave while Alison and Stephen are here for Christmas.

Ok everybody - we managed -24C last night - is anyone feeling sorry for me?? Trish the polar bear in Canada

Rachel Cox said...

It is so cold here! Real cold. But it is winter! It is never above 6oC

Mariann Mäder said...

I'm feeling sorry for anyone who ever reaches that far below 0°C on a regular basis, Trish! Poor dear!

But if you're used to such temperatures it doesn't feel nearly as cold than if you are used to high temps and hit low ones! I felt that in South Africa.

Mel, I once read or heard (not sure of the fact) that if there's any place in Australia that has a similar climate to central Europe it's Melbourne.

Claire EJ said...

OMG poor Trish....our friend Josee was reporting -20 in the morning, that's just so wrong. I wouldn't have a clue how to dress for those sort of temps, it's just un-natural!

Karen R said...

The winter before we moved to GA, we had 3 weeks of temps around -40 F - with the wind chill. On the ground was ice, snow, ice, snow. Our truck wouldn't start one day, and our pipes froze and then burst - through the ceiling of the apartment below us. And the whole time, we were watching the Weather Channel, seeing Atlanta in the 50s & 60s every day.

Now, out in S. Dakota, you have measures in place to take care of those things - your pipes have heating wires, and you have a block warmer for your car that you plug in every night. But in case I've never mentioned it before, I don't EVER want to live any place where you h ave to do things like that. EVER.

Claire EJ said...

I can't even begin to imagine temps like that. They just aren't real to me at all.
With my screwy body temperature, I don't think I'd survive at all.

Melissa Hicks said...

I'm with Claire. Sorry - could not do it, not gonna try !!!!
