The Power of the Library!

Walking down the local main street today, other people looked through me or didn't notice me at all.

Walking back in the opposite direction 20 minutes later with an armload of library books, I received nods and smiles from the same sets of people .....

I picked up:
Freakonomics by Steven D. Levitt
The latest JD Robb
The latest PD James and
Twilight by Stephanie Meyer.

Now - do I continue making the house ready for guests or do I stop and read.

Decisions decisions .....

Read. The guests will take care of themselves.

That's what I figured. One is a bibliophile and the other is a librarian - they will understand .....

No problem then.

Only problem is that after an hour's reading I have a huge headache!

Keep taking the pills.

Read. Then if you really like one or more of the books you can recommend it to your guests.

Books are great. My purchases are keeping Waterstones solvent. Have you read any Cormac McCarthy Books (No Country for Old Men)? Ive been going through his Border Trilogy which I can thoroughly recommend.

The one I just finished reading (the benefits of being a fast reader) was Ferakonomics. It was recommended by one guest and the other is already trying to hunt down a copy. I suspect there may be a few points arising from that book that will make lovely post dinner philosophical conversations.

No I haven't, On what basis do you recommend these books? Well written, thorough knowledge of subject, something to provoke further thought and discussion? Something that just hits you at an emotional level? or just a rollicking good piece of fluff?

I enjoyed the latest JD Robb and really loved Twilight. If I were you, I'd read!

Are your eyes still bothering you?

Melissa Hicks said...

Yep - but that's just part of life now. The macular plays up whenever I get stressed and I just have to live with it and learn more relaxation techniques :)

And also learn not to fall asleep with my head on a weird angle.

Sorry to hear that. That must be terribly frustrating to have to put the book down after an hour or so.

Oh I generally just ignore the headache and plough on through. Finished that book this morning. Highly recommend Freakonomics - lots of thought provoking dinner conversations from that one.

Don't think I'm too weird, LOL, but have you ever tried yoga? There are many easy stretches out there that would help loosen you up and help you to de-stress. I have a tendency to get really tight neck and shoulder muscles, which can lead to headaches. I know that yoga wouldn't help with the eye problem, but if you're sleeping at an odd angle, stretching exercises would help that out. I know that you deal with a lot of stress at work, and I think that 15 minutes at the end of the day with a little bit of yoga would help you to de-stress and hopefully in the long run help you to feel a bit better.

Hmmmmm, I vote that you drop everything and read Twilight!! ;-)

I haven't. I used to go to a massage therapist regularly and I haven't since I moved. I know I'm getting tight in the shoulders and neck - I can feel it.

No the weird angle was falling asleep on the lounge reading the book.

For some reason I got a REALLY good night's sleep last night - first time in nearly a week.
