Mel's Thursday update

Evening all,

I'm heading down to mum's tomorrow for a three day weekend, and I *wont* be taking The Castle with me ... so here's a Thursday update instead. As some of you know I had a very frustrating week with threads constantly tangling and knotting - but oh well - I got a little bit of good stitching done today and I have finally completely finished the bottom level of the walls. Link here:

I'll start on the bushes and roofs next month.... it'll get me away from those pink and grey blends for a while.

Off to bed now.

Looks good! I'm ready to get to some green, myself - bushes or dragon, either at this point! Next month! Have a good weekend!

Ahhh - it looks great, Mel! Enjoy your weekend! And I'm looking forward to finishing up the bushes and rocks... so that I can play with some pinks rather than purple/brown blends! {grin}

This was the first large piece I ever stitched. I stitched it long before I knew anything about different fabrics and different colors. Mine is stitched on the white aida from the kit. I really wish it was stitched on a blue background. Don't miss all that blending though!

LOL...I moved onto all the weird pinks last night and they are as trying as the greys for the rocks.....but yet another day of extreme stitching here :)
Mel, have a fabulous weekend with Denise!

I worked for two days only. I thought I would go to next Tuesday and then switch.

Mel, it looks great! I have really got to figure out how to make my house warm enough to stitch. Winter is supposed to be a good time for stitching, but as cold as it's been here I can't keep my hands warm enough to stitch. Hard to do anything when you can't tell if you have a needle in your hands! (I DO have heat, but in a cinder block house with ceiling vents, everything below is cold. You do NOT want to go barefoot on my floors!)

Hi its Mel here - posting from mum's account. I just wanted to announce that my Dragski now has a name too ....

I would like to introduce you all to Faience.

Faience is a type of ancient egyptian glass making technology: http://www.touregypt.net/featurestories/faience.htm

To the Egyptians, faience was known ... for the properties of "shining," "gleaming," or "dazzling," Faience was thought to glisten with a light symbolic of life, rebirth and immortality.

Wow, what a wonderful name!! I love it...

What a wonderfully original name!! And perfect for all the sparkles that your dragon will have when done!

Perfect for an Egyptian lover.......apparently the Tutenkhamen death mask will be here again in November...Dad's cross cos he's going to be in Cairo then which was part of a plan to see it all...LOL

A wonderful name and hopefully now there will be no more sulking by your Dragski!

Claire EJ said...

Agreed...I think a lot of this sulking lark is to do with not being named properly. Dragons are awfully fussy with being named true.
After all, look what happened to Heartwood this week after finding her true name!? Lots of progress.

Hilary Syddall said...

Indeed! I am hoping that my Dragski likes her name!

Melissa Hicks said...

Oh I know Faience loves her name ... but she wont be stitched on again for a little while yet - we'll see about the sulking next month :)

Thanks for your compliments - I was expecting al least one "oh thats a bit ... interesting" comment :)

Paula Hubert said...

Not at all - I think it's a perfect name! :) I have to say that my minimal progress this month was definitely not Custard's fault.. I just didn't have stitching time!
