Birds

No matter how much I winge, rant, rave or vent .....

there's is nothing in my life so bad that session of hand feeding wild parrots cannot fix.

Equanimity is restored (even if I am on dial up speeds for the next 2 and a half weeks)

Today's music squabbling lorikeets with accompaniment by Enya .....

That is so cool! They just don't look real - they look like melted crayon!

Rainbow lorikeets? Goreous andlucky you for having them so tame. Has Trubs not sized them up as snacks yet?

Where my hand is, is a meshed sliding window. Its shut when I'm not there. So The birds don't get trapped in the balcony and so Trubs can't get at the birds.

These birds are not tame. They are wild birds. They are very skittish and they fly away at the least amount of noise. But they trust me enough to come so close to me.

That trust touches my heart every time I think about it.

Well that and the fact that Sunflower seeds to Lorikeets are like chocolate to a woman with PMS :)

They are really beautiful birds, and we do not get them here in my part of the country.

Once again, making me green with jealousy!! These are sooooo cool! And to have them eat out of your hand, what could be better??

I was thinking about your birds on the way home from our walk in the woods today; with all those parrots flying around, do you guys have any raptors there? Eagles, falcons, anything like that? I assume there are vultures - I think those things are just about everywhere except Antarctica....

What beautiful colors. Would love to chart and stitch them!!

That is really cool that a wild bird will feed out of your hand like that. Of course, I would be freaking out....birds creep me out big time!

But Karen, vultures are mostly beautiful (well not when they come out of a frenzy carcass feeding, but they clean up very well!)! Look at the condors! Or our local bearded vulture - beautiful, huge birds!

And they clean up before the bugs take over!

I do love the Lorikeets - and what a special feeling to have something wild trust you so much.

(And I'd take chocolate from you even on a non-PMS day! lol)

{LOL} Thanks you sweetheart !!!!!

Not really. Not here. Further West where I grew up we had the occasional wedge-tailed eagle but I haven't seen anything like that here - I'll ask around. Thanks for the thought.

We've got other birds and animals that take over the scavenging role - the bush turkeys for one .... but mostly dingoes and foxes in this neck of the woods.

No vultures in Australia - not the vultures, condors etc that you know and love.
