Picture This

A plump woman in her mid 30s with vibrant dark purple hair, wearing all black. Her clothes are black. Her backpack is black.  Her MP3 player and ear buds are all black.  Coming out of the ear buds is Ziltoid the Omniscient (Devin Townsend - comedic heavy metal).

And she is calmly stitching a sweet little cherry and chocolate design on light pink fabric with the words "How do I love thee, let me count the ways" clearly emblazoned ....

Apparently it confused lots of passengers on the train this morning .......

Coughs loudly and says "did anyone notice Mel dyed her hair dark purple???"

I always assumed her hair was dark black or purple!

What a wonderful picture. Must have been a lovely morning.

Usually its a variation on Cherry Red :) I never dye my hair black - I so do not have the colouring for black hair !!!!!

Shudder :-))

The image you describe is the kind of clash between things I really like though...

See, I knew that....would love to see a pic of the dark purple, might even swap ya for one of the current colour here LOL.

We had a picture taken of the three of us last night. When I can unbury the cable, I'll post it:)
Steve has yet to upload the photos from the week to our server so nothing there until maybe Friday or tomorrow night at earliest.

How'd I miss this one??? Yep, dark purple I gotta see :) I have the same effect on people when I am stitching in public, although mine isn't visual, so it's only from people who know me vaguely (other parents on the boys' teams, mostly), who just are dumbfounded by somebody like me doing needlework. Apparently it's incongruous to be stitching and telling the ref (mostly under my breath) how f%$#ing stupid he is. Not sure why it's a problem, but I continue to freak people out. It's all part of my mystique :)

Heh - I'd not have been confused - I'd have been saying "Gothy!!" Or well, maybe just sitting opposite you with a nudge and a grunt since I'm so often non-verbal that early in the morning lol.

{LOL} !!! ROTFLMAO !!!!

Thank you Paula !!! I could just see that !!!! :) :) :)

Melissa Hicks said...

Yeah !!! I get that one too ....Apparently calling someone numbnuts for almost hitting you in the head with his baggage while you are stitching such a sweet design startles them too!

I had someone at work (a guy my age) recently tell me that "cross stitching is for grandmas" in surprise when I brought a piece in to work on and he saw me showing it to a friend. Sheesh!
Love the image though, I think it is a great effort to confuse and confound those who think they have cross stitching (and stitchers) neatly pigeonholed as 'grandma-types'! You go gothy girl!
On another note, is there a pic up of the purple hair yet? I think it sounds kewl!

Melissa Hicks said...

Not yet - forgot to take the camera to work yesterday and feeling absolutely ghastly last night and today. Will put a pic up when I'm feeling better and can have someone around to take the pic ......

Why not make sure the hair is well and truly purple and get a pic taken of yourself in Melbourne!
