Web Stuff

Coming back to earth and getting life sorted again.

Pics are of a little Gund Tigger Stephen bought me last weekend in Melbourne.

Two web things that I liked this morning:

Off to hang washing out and perhaps eat some food ...... and check my mobile - Stephen is *still* out of communications range - its been over 39 hours now - how big is the Nullabor Plain anyway ......

Hi Sweetie, according to Wikipedia the Nullarbor Plain is apparently about 200,000 square km. I'm sure it seems even bigger. He'll call.

What a cute little Tigger. I always liked the old Tigger over the newer Disney-fied version, and was happy when they started marketing the classic Pooh things.

Oh I know he will - I'm just grumbling and worried :)

In some ways I'm glad I haven't heard because its means he's taking his time and taking proper rest breaks and not doing anything silly :)

Isn't it the most gorgeous Tigger !!!!!
I much prefer the Original drawings too (as can bee seen by my avatar) !!!

I keep changing my mind on your carpet page design - so mum and I and hopefully Debbie are doing a run up the Blue Mountains to Stitching Post next Saturday to do some floss tosses !!!!!!

Once that happens I'll catch up and get ahead with the stitching on this one.

As I remember, the part of Australia that is officially the Nullabor Plain isn't that far across, but the whole desert area is much bigger. I'd been imagining we'd been on the Nullabor Plain for ages when suddenly there was a sign informing me that we'd only just reached it. (Of course, this was 8 years ago, so I could be misremembering.)

Your tiger is gorgeous and I'm sure Stephen is fine and it is the lack of cellphone towers in outback Australia that is the problem.

Cute Tigger!!! I'm with you; like the older one better. My favorite however is Eeorye. :) So glad that you had a nice time!! Can't wait to see what you come up with for your floss toss!!!

Wonder if Trubs has been thinking that over the past week?

And talking of Alison, how's the lovely Lothario?

Melissa Hicks said...

The Lovely Lothario is apparently getting actually fat! I need to see this with my own two eyes, but apparently he's very very comfortable with his current incarnation as a well fed housecat thank you very much !!!!

Also I just received a phone call from the lovely Stephen - he is back in mobile range again and only 100 or so kms from home.

He apparently pulled over in every single truck stop on the way trying to find a working internet cafe or even a payphone so he could let me know that he was OK. He *knew* I was worrying about him.

I'm off to bed now .....

Gosh the man's a sweetie. hang on to him, he's good for your brain:) and presumably the body too LOL

Good to know about Lothario. So glad he settled so well. Hope you can find the time to see him as I would love an update photo.

The Nullabor is apparently huge. Didn't I tell you my tale of Mike's grandfather who walked across it ? (yes I know, I;m a boring old git). Lovely Tigger but where's his eyes?
Steve sounds lovely. Definitely a keeper. Glad to hear Trubs was well looked after I had visions of her sprawling in your best armchair, remote on lap, tin of cat food in one hand (whoops paw) curlers in hair and on mobile to all her friends saying "Thank God she's gone. Now come on over and lets whoop it"

He had them closed against the flash :)

NO !!! Tell me, when where ??? And more importantly - how !!!!

Nah! Trubs is tooo old for that. Alison actually stayed over some nights and Trub just went "oh you've changed shape? Oh well as long as the food keeps coming". Alison did my trick of falling asleep on the lounge (I have two sofa beds in the lounge room that are over 6 foot long). She woke up to find Trub sprawled along the length of her side purring like a jet engine.

Another night she was up later, and when she went into the guest bedroom to go to sleep, Trubs was already there, sound asleep on her pillow! So Alison grabbed another pillow from my bedroom and then snuck in on the *other* side of the guest bed and made herself comfortable. Trubs cracked open one eye and apparently gave a huge self-satisfied smirk !!!!

Alison said she laughed and laughed at this self-satisfied "Ha! I have you well trained" - I am the pinnacle of cathood" look.

{insert huge sigh of relief here}

He was quite young and signed on a ship out of Appledore (here in North Devon). The Captain however was a tyrant and made life for him and a couple of other lads untolerable. After sailing for many weeks they decided that when they got to Australia they would jump ship. Duly arrived in Freemantle but when push came to shove the others chickened out. Grandpa however couldn't take the beating, rotten food etc. any more and jumped ship. Ship left without him. When he tried to sign on another ship he was told that according to the rules in Freemantle he couldn't sign on any ship because he didn't have his papers (still on old ship) BUT if he went to Sydney they had different rules and he would be able to sign on a ship bound for England there.

No money, clothes he stood up in. So he decided to walk from Freemantle to Sydney across the Nullabor. It took 3 years. He walked, found work at ranches etc. on the way doing anything that they would offer so that he had food and clothing. Eventually he reached Sydney and signed on a ship and returned to England. He was away for 4 years.

Thats the tale in brief.

Blimey, that's some tale! Wow..amazing to think someone could actually do that.

Karen R said...

Wow, that's a book I'd read :)

Love the Tigger - the originals are my favorites! Great Lumps - just a little coincidental, huh? Maybe Trubs is a ghost writer in your absence?

Melissa Hicks said...

If Trubs was a ghost writer then I hope she doesn't write for Devil's Panties .... the owner here was at a Con on the weekend too:

We've been having long discussions (I dread my phone bill next month)

This may be turning into something a little more than good friendship. We shall wait and see what opportunities arise for geographic proximity :)
