Intolerances

Interesting thoughts this morning as I'm discovering just how intolerant I am at times :)

Living on my own with just Trubs for company its amazing how set I've become in my ways ....

So here's a question for everyone:

Name the five top things you would or do ban from your home?

Mine are:
1. The sounds of greensleeves .....
2. All mention of all codes or forms of football
3. Smokers (OK as friends but no smoking in the house - regardless of *what* you are smoking)
4. Pet haters. People who cannot and wil not understand why the rest of us choose to live with separate species in our homes (this does not include spouse or children)
5. The colour pink.  Especially Barbie Pink and pastel pinks :)
6. Hip Hop, the new definition of R&B and crap rap :)

OK who's next ???

Hey you had six!

Anyhow

1. Barbie pink (I agree with you on this one)
2. Animal haters (with you on this one as well)
3. People who hate rock of any type!
4. Smokers (yep with you on this one!)
5. Personal one - people who hate/denigrate the disabled

Hmmmm...

1) Pink (seems to be a theme, huh?) - mauve and rose don't count
2) 24/7 sports and news channels
3) Country music - except Johnny Cash :)
4) Smoking - I used to, and now I don't, so I think I'm justified to choose to not be around it.
5) Anyone who feels entitled to anything they have not earned, especially through the sins of previous generations.

Okay, here are mine:

1) those who feel they are entitled or owed something ( I agree with Karen, nothing gets me more angry)
2) Rap music (You were right on Mel, and I hear enough of it at the school I teach from the students)
3) People who yell. I do not like the loud yellers who think they are right just because they are the loudest !
4) Smoking of anything....keep it outside
5) People who never want to acknowledge when someone else is right.

Woo Hoo !!!! I agree with all of these so far - and I don't do any of them :) :)

As an experienced, lived alone for more than half my life old person, I can relate to everything everyone has posted. Except the pink! With 2 little granddaughters, (13 years & 8 months) I have no problems at all with pink & would do a room in Barbie pink if either of them wanted! I just wouldn't spend time in there when they weren't here!!! So...

1) Anyone who comes in & says my stitching should be burned cause it's a waste of money & time. (yes - it has happened)
2) Those same people who don't want to do anything to help, but seem to know all about how to care for a disabled person & constantly have nasty comments.
3) Smoking. My home - my choice - my rules.
4) Music that makes me hurt - be it rap, screaming rock, classical. see #3!
5) People who believe their way is the only right way. I'm old, I've survived this long with laundry, dishes, vaccuums, paint brushes. Trust my experience. If I need help - I'll ask!.

The top 5 things banned from my household:

1) Smoke - no matter what, this is a non-smoking environment and people can go outside if they have to...
2) Impatience (can't stand it - it makes me impatient, too and I hate that)
3) People who think they have to tell me I have to loose weight!
4) Yes, I, too, agree with the NO Pink Rule! No matter the degree of pink, I don't like it.
5 And I'll also put in that there are a few genres of music I won't tolerate: mass-produced, computer-produced, cheap music of all sorts. If I listen to music I want some honest down-to-earth stuff that has actually been played on a real instrument and sung with a real voice. Mostly classical, singer-songwriter, lots of rock bands, jazz and the likes...

There you are! VERY intolerant person here. But here's my other points of the kinds of intolerance I won't tolerate:

1) People who either jump in for childrens OR animal rights but can't agree that both are "underdogs" who ned protection and support
2) People who are not ready to accept a complete ban of ANY kind of weapon
3) Racists
4) Bigots (I don't mean people who believe in some kind of deity, I mean the people who become self-righteous and stupid over their beliefs)
5) Male chauvinists (those men who still clearly declare they only tolerate women as their own personal servants)

So I admit that I am a very intolerant person. That said I still believe in "Live and let live" and "Treat others the way you want them to treat you" (if they don't they're feeling the shame of their behaviour sooner or later)

Here's my list:
1. Smoke - go outside or don't do it!
2. People who have the nerve to tell me I have no taste in movies or music
3. 24/7 sports and news channels (agree with Karen on that one!)
4. People who are experts on everything and have to get the last word in on anything (see #2 and 5)
5. Impatience (hmm... DH will just have to go I guess...)

I can't ban pink since it's Emily's favorite color, and I know eventually she'll outgrow this phase. DH is being a pain in the rear today because it's a weekend I guess... and is being pretty intolerant to everything in the house which might be where my mood is coming from...

Gads! Do I have to limit it to 5?
1. Any music, be it rap, pop, or country that glorifies alcoholism, cop killing, or racial violence. Among other things.
2. Smoking.
3. Drunks and those clearly under the influence of drugs.
4. Racial hatred. We are all humans being people, start acting like it.
5. Anyone who thinks their way is the only way.
6. People who treat my children as though they are a disease.
7. Abusive people.
8. Extreme arrogance or self superiority.
I have more, but I have to take Nathan to his Easter play rehearsal now, LOL.

Ok, these are the things I would ban from my home

1. Alcohol, mainly because of it's effect on people
2. People who yell
3. Smoking in any form
4. People who always think they are right and therefore everyone else is wrong
5.My home is my sanctuary. When, if, how or why I do something is my prerogative.
6. Stash thieves

I try to treat others the way I would like them to treat me. Therefore, if I am kind, considerate and tolerant towards them, I expect the same in return.

Melissa Hicks said...

I like this one - except for me I'd change it to When if how why or WHO I do is my prerogative :)

Melissa Hicks said...

So then *mutual* stash thieving is OK ???? .... i.e. you steal from me so I can treat you the same and steal stash back from you ???????? {ducks and runs}

Melissa Hicks said...

but but but .... I think *all* children are icky ..... {LOL! } Sorry ..... Hiding my head in shame now ....

Denise Hicks said...

Yes, mutual thieving is ok!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hey, you have mega lots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! can't help but thieve occasionally. :)

Melissa Hicks said...

Oooooh !!!!!! That's it - you're helping me pack to move house soon !!!! You can thieve it away so I don't have to unpack it at the other end :) :) :) :)

Hmmm - I don't think I have anything new or creative to add, but here we are:

1) Animal haters - Molly is family, period
2) Smoking - same as everyone else has said
3) People who refuse to take responsibility for their own actions/choices
4) The "experts" who know how best to do something but refuse to actually *DO* it
5) Self-centered people - I don't mind helping or listening, but life is a two-way street, babe!
