Fire Flower SAL - started

OK here's my first night's stitching on this one.   Fire Flower album.

Its a great design to stitch - the design elements really seem to flow from one element to the next - just load up the needle and keep going !!!! Marvellous!

Black takes a while to get used to again .... but once I got my eye in, it just stitched up so easily!

So wish I could stay home tomorrow and work on this some more ... but now my eyes are sore and I'm tired and I'm off to bed. Hope everyone else has had a great day!

Looks wonderful so far! My chart is on the way to me now, but I don't expect to have fibers or fabric for a few months yet - gotta finish one project before I start this one!

Great start honey!.
I have to finish CA before I can pick mine up so I'll be a way behind you. The colours look great on black!

Thanks guys - the thread didn't end up looking anything like I thought it would ... my stitching makes it look like the thread os composed of chunks of orange olive burgundy and straw - not the subtle flowing from one shade to the next that I see on the skein .... not sure if I like the stitching yet - will wait til I get a bigger patch done.

Claire I understand about getting CA done first - good luck with it !!! If I get over halfway done on FF this week I might be tempted not to change to the Castle next week :) :)

Ooh, very nice. I recognize that thread from Carrie! It really comes out well on that black! I think it looks great, but if you don't like the stripey patches, try working little blobs of adjacent stitches together then fill outward to the boundary of a petal instead of just horizontally. Or, change the directions around so some petals look more diagonal or vertically striped. It can make a subtle but cool difference. Cheers!

So are you using 1 strand or 2, and is it 32 ct? The lure of 1 strand is so appealing on designs that have backstitching like this, so you can fluidly go between x'es and ringlets. I like the coverage of 2 strands on 32 ct, though.

You Fire flower looks great Mel, your colour combination qppears to have about 5 different colours in it.

I like it as it is Mel... but I also confess that Miami Deco looked a LOT different as I was stitching with it than I'd expected. I didn't really start liking it until I got to the next round from where you are - the sets of triangles.

So pretty!

Thanks Tracy, I was changing the direction of my stripes - you can see some are vertical and and some are horizontal - but yes I'm thinking of doing some areas as a flower petal - a spiral within itself you could say.

Thanks for the ideas !!

I'm actually doing this a little differently - Marc recommends 1 strand on 32ct, but like you I prefer the coverage of 2 strands on 32ct. I was also a bit worried that the burgundy would sink into the black with only one strand so ....

I'm doing the lot, backstitching and all - in 2 strands. I figured it would look different and yet appropriate because the whole thing was designed to be stitched with the same number of threads ..... and it will certainly be a contrast to those who do the more traditional 2 threads for cross stitch and 1 thread for backstitching ....

Oh good - there's hope for me yet :)

Very pretty, Mel

I've been pondering this, too.. and you're making me feel better about the fact that I'd pretty much settled on two strands. (But the indecision is why you'll notice I didn't do any of the backstitching in the area I have finished!

{LOL} i thought that was because you were leaving the one thread backstitching for last !!!!!!!!

So is anyone doing one thread backstitching ????
