Metropolis!

http://www.zeit.de/online/2008/27/metropolis-vorab-englisch

Metropolis has been on of my favourite movies since I first saw it 30 plus years ago ...... very influential on my taste in cinema ...

I will certainly be first in line to see the "restored" version when it comes out - sadly I don;t think think that will be any time soon .....

{Note to self: Still need to acquire copy of the Martin Koerber 2 disc DVD version - I've watched it - just don't have my own copy yet)

I'm trying to recall if I've seen this - it sounds so very familiar, but yet, I can't picture anything specific....

Oh you would remember if you saw it. It was a black and white silent film about the oppression of workers in industrial society while the elite still wander through gardens etc .... Its a fantastic social commentary as well as being one of the first science fiction films ....

Okay, it was obviously one of the restorations, either the 1984 or 1986 - I remember the architecture in it very distinctly. I know I was in HS - I went with a group of friends to one of the "arty" theaters down by the University of Dayton.... That is one they need to get on DVD stat!

Great film - one of the really great, influential films of all times. Up there with Citizen Kane, and Sergei Eizenshtein's (now what's that in English...) Panzerkreuzer Potemkin and D.W. Griffith's Intolerance

And I think I've seen the restored one, but I thought that was already a while ago...

Battleship Potemkin.

And I would add Murneu's Nostferatu in that list too.

There have been a number of "restored" versions of Metropolis but in the last couple of days they have found the missing quarter of the original film ....

Fritz Lang did an amazing job on this one. Blade Runner's sets were based on it.

Love this film and really intrigued to see the missing footage they found in BA.

What a coincidence. THis is one of our all time favorites. We bought the 1926 version, but really had to hunt down and pay big $ on ebay for the restored version with the cool soundtrack (Queen, et al). Can't wait to see what new parts they found!!!

Cool! Thanks for the heads-up on this - I'll be on the lookout. This is one of my favorites as well. Watched it in college (majored in Urban Studies) and it really made an impact!
