Updates

Well car is roadworthy and all registrations and insurances completely paid and receipted now.

Home PC seems to be going fine again after its little tantrum last week.

Early this morning I faxed in an application for the rental accomodation the I really want.  Please keeps everything crossed for me.

Today I have received the official paperwork from RMIT.  All appears to be exactly as discussed and I have put in my official resignation from UNSW.

Off to arrange some breakfast now.

Updated half hour later:  My Director has announced my resignation to the whole Library.  Seems weird to get "congratulations" and "well done" when I am still going to be here another 2 and a half weeks.

I GOT THE HOUSE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm on the phone with Real Estate Property Manager NOW !!!!

Oh, that's great, Mel!!!!!!!

Good that you did get the house you wanted. Is it the one close to where you work? I see loads more stitching hours in the not so far away future, LOL!

If you could move right in the removal company doesn't have to put your stuff into storage, I suppose?

Over all I think your good managerial talents have come to shine right through the stress, lady! Well done!

{insert insane laughter here} I've been a quivering wreck for the last fortnight.

See, you scoffed at all those who told you it would all work out...and so it did! hehehe...so glad it has done and so much more easily than I ever expected.
The place looks great and I see you being very happy there.

Woot! Many congratulations on everything coming together! how soon before you move and can you take Trubs?

Mariann Mäder said...

I know that - without your qualities you might have been a case for the nuthouse though, bwa ha ha ha

Melissa Hicks said...

Thank you everyone and yes feel free to say "I told you so" as much as you want :) :) :)

Apart from haemorrhaging money left right and centre (they want 10 weeks rent up front) I'm doing fine so far .... just one more hurdle which is the removalists meeting on Friday.

Karen R said...

10 weeks?? Holy crap! Used to first & last months' rent (which I guess is 8 weeks) but an extra 2 weeks - that's just insult to injury :) Do you have a deposit in your current place you are expecting back (unless she goes even more cow-ward?)

Melissa Hicks said...

Here it is usually 4 weeks rent as "Bond" held by an independent government department and then they want 2 weeks rent upfront.

Now in this new year, along with demanding that you must inspect the place before you move in, they are also asking for 6 weeks "bond" and 4 weeks upfront.

I do have the bond coming back from the old place, but that was 2 weeks rent at $150 a week cheaper than the new bond .... and I wont be receiving it for another 6 weeks or so. So it will definitely be too little too late ....

But I *will* be receiving the bond back - there is absolutely nothing they can use to withhold my bond from me - the place is cleaner than I moved in - even with just the weekly cleans I do.

Congrats on everything which seems to be falling into place. TOLD YOU SO........
What a bum about the bond. Here its a bond of the equivalent of one months rent plus one months rent up front. The rental agency also inspect the property one month after the tenant has moved in and then every six months.

Now all you have to do is sort out the removals, work your notice out, get packed up and then move. Simple isn't it:))

Mariann Mäder said...

Even if your rent is higher now, without having to pay for transport or petrol for the car you'll be saving heaps of money, aren't you?

Melissa Hicks said...

No. I'll still be a few dollars worse off - but that is offset by the joy of a life again :)

Melissa Hicks said...

We have the same inspections here.

I have submitted my notice to work and the current rental agency. so just to find out timings for the removalists, pack, clean the old house, pass final inspection, move, do first inspection of new place, unpack then start new job.

So much to do..any chance of you getting some help?

Sad it's so far from Alison:(

Melissa Hicks said...

Alison has already booked the spare bedroom for Christmas so she can go to the Boxing day Test Match (cricket - in Melbourne every year).

Natalie Mikesell said...

Yeah!!!! Happy for you!! Can't wait to see pics of your new digs :)

Check out the bathroom!

The bathroom is lovely! And I like the staircase, too. It looks like a great place, Mel. Silly question, after looking at the pictures - do you have to provide a stove and refrigerator, or will they be there when you move in?

Melissa Hicks said...

The stove is there - just out of view. I do have to provide my own fridge. We always have to move our own fridges here :)

Claire EJ said...

PMSL ....clever girl!

The shower in that bathroom looks wonderful, much jealousy here.

Natalie Mikesell said...

The tile work in that shower pic is lovely! The countertops...are they granite? To die for!! Love the little terrace, and the bricks with exposed celing beams!! I suppose that I could go on and on huh? This really appears unique and very pretty. I am certain that you will LOVE it here.
PS that staircase is awesome!

Paula Hubert said...

Gotcha - at least that makes it easier (that you know about it). We've always had all of the appliances in the kitchen in the places we've rented, but I've had friends who have provided their own fridge. It can go either way 'round here.

Karen R said...

Rats - as usual, I'm behind, and the property is no longer on the link - which must mean you now officially have it!!! So... you'll just have to take a bunch of pics when you get all your needlework hung up :)

Melissa Hicks said...

Looking at the half hour between Paula commenting and you - it looks like it came down at midnight my time ... sorry Karen - will send pics in a couple of weeks when I get down there ....
