I verbally accepted the job offer from RMIT.
I had an in-depth talk with Barbara, my new supervisor and all the conditions and arrangements appear to be to my liking. She is investigating what component of relocation she can offer me and I expect an email from her or her HR department early next week.
So, based on the written offer coming through and being the same as the verbal offer .....
I finish work at UNSW COB Friday 29 August (4 weeks).
I move the middle of the following week and then give myself 10 days to get settled, get the net up and running, get unpacked etc
I start my new job Monday morning 15 September 2008.
Now - next stage - to find a domicile to move to :)

Yeah!!! I am excited for you!! Now - are you required to give the cow notice, or do you just up and leave???
I have to give the Real Estate agency three weeks notice. So I have until my birthday to tell them.
Congrats on the new job!!! Hopefully the new living space will be easy to find. Will this bring you closer to Stephen?
Oh Yippee! but now I have to change Firefox and my phone! I'm so glad you got the job, dear. Does this mean an eventual end to hours long commutes?
Hey, congratulations, Mel!!! I hope the entire process goes very smoothly for you!
Congrats Mel!!!!!!!!!!!! Sending good vibes that the moving process goes smoothly!!!!
I assume you mean geographically ???
Directly no. I'm moving from central Eastern coast to bottom of the Eastern coast. He's still on the lower Western Coast. So still over the other side of the flipping country - Sleepless in Seattle anyone?
However long term, Melbourne is a city that holds attractions for both of us and I believe that upon finding suitable work in the area Stephen will return to Melbourne. Its where he had been living for the past few years and I believe that most of his Australian-based support network is settled in that city too :)
He'll correct me if I am wrong.
I doubt it. I'll still be in the same time zone. I'll still keep the same mobile number and I'm deliberately moving all email to mel@twistedreality.com.au because that is on Stephen's server and is therefore independent of my ISP.
So could you all please use *** mel@twistedreality.com.au *** as the primary contact for email for me please. The AAPT account may be switched off in the next few weeks, especially if I find a better landline and broadband deal in Melbourne.
Congratulations!!!!!
Melbourne is a great place to live. I lived there for six years and got my degree from Melbourne Uni.
I'm so delighted for you.
Congratulations on the new job. Hope everything goes smoothly for you.
Wow! Congratulations Mel - that's great news. Busy month ahead though for you. Good luck finding some new 'digs' and getting packed and moved. Cheers!
Have changed phone email to twisted reality which is so much more suitable for you :)
One of my oldest friends lives just outside Melbourne. Would love if you could meet her. She's English and knows more about me than anyone else in the world!
Excellent news!! I hope you're able to find a place to live quickly. This seems like it will be a good thing for you! (But I really don't envy you the whole moving bit. The next time I move, I want to be able to just click my heels three times and be completely moved into my new house!)
Just make sure you want to move to Kansas before you do that....lol
Woot, Woot!, WOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go GothTigger!! Now how soon can you tell your landlady to take her house and stick it?!
Congratulations Mel! What wonderful news!!! I wish you much success in your new endevour!!!
I cannot tell a lie - Stephen had that name long before he met me :) :)
I just borrow it :)
OK Trubs has hereby been renamed Toto. Oooh you should see the look she just gave me !!!!!!!
I'm off to find a pair of Ruby Slippers :)
You actually *want* me to meet someone who knows *that* much about you ??????
Whereabouts outside Melbourne?
Sounds great and I'm sure you will love giving your notice to the Real Estate at the appropriate time. On the other hand you could always mention to the old cow that you are not going to move until the very last moment. Of course, if she were to pay you a suitable amount then you could arrange to go sooner:))
That's great news, Mel! I'm so happy for you, though I don't envy you for your moving work, LOL! That is something I don't like to do. We moved four times or so when I was a kid and my mum said every time it was a good opportunity to clear out old baggage you don't really want anymore. I'm a *hoarder*! I had to fight for my things to remain with me! She didn't let me though, so old stuff not used anymore found itself in the skip.
Anyway, I really hope you find something a) suitable, b) nice, big and airy and c) ideal for Trubs! With a little furball along you always have to fit some extra needs in the formula for your home.
But knowing you - you will do it!
Sounds like just what you needed. A new job and getting out of the house ordeal. I will miss your bird videos though.....hope everything goes as planned and the move goes without a hitch.
Trubs and I have moved together seven or eight times already .... her requirements are instinctively included. The last two weeks of the move are going to be the hardest - Trubs is going to stay with mum for those and I'm going to miss her dreadfully.
There are birds in Melbourne ...... so there is hope yet.
My one move with a cat wasn't that far, so everything passed within two days. I could take her to the still empty flat a day before the move and she was at home there within five minutes, luckily!
If you've moved several times already with Trubs it's not going to be too hard on her, I suppose. You'll miss her, but she'll be with you quick enough.
Sending some "find the perfect house for Mel and Trubs" vibes already...
Oh, Mel, how wonderful! I'll keep you on my list for finding a great new home.
Yes PLEASE Laura! Its proving a tad difficult when all the agents keep sending me emails saying "open for inspection this afternoon".
How many times do I have to tell them I am in Sydney !!!! {sigh}
