WIP - Corn and Beans

This is ther very last of the "Stitched on the Train" projects.

This progress was made while on my last few days of the commute last week of August 2008.

In the background of this picture is my Q-snaps with a new start on it. Prize to the first person who correctly identifies the new start.

Damn, can't zoom in more than once! Looks like gold opalescent material though.....with your stash I wouldn't even DARE to guess.

There's a triangular shape there reminiscent of the Autumn Mosaic Pillow - I'm trying to visually recall stuff in your stash....

It *is* a bad photo - I'm sorry - it came up better at home than it does on the work monitor.

I'll take another pic tonight .....

Yes yellow fabric. yes first thread is a triangle - peach colour.

And you will have no clue from my stash.

Think magazine charts ....

Have absolutely no idea what you're stitching, but your Mom is reading To Ride Pegasus by Anne McCaffrey. One of my favorite authors.

Melissa Hicks said...

One of mum's favourite authors and my favourite series :) We kept out "Pegasus in Flight" when packing the books on the weekend too :)

Kerry Dustin said...

I noticed your mum reading To Ride Pegasus too. That's the exact edition I have.

Melissa Hicks said...

I've had that book for a long while :)

Just zoomed in on the picture and noticed the chart for the mystery project is in the picture too - will have to remove that!

Melissa Hicks said...

OK I've put up a close up photo.

Corn and Beans! I thought it was when you said peach but I have an internet accerator and it really mucks up photos so all I could see was a yellow blur in the original photos!

Cirque des Triangles?

Sisu Lull said...

I haven't a clue what the pattern is and I could see the chart, LOL. Couldn't read it though. I could see that your mom is reading an Anne McCaffrey book though. She is one of my favorite authors, but I don't think I have read that particular book. I'll have to see if I can find it.

Paula Hubert said...

Hmmm - Roseann is probably right. My first though was Cirque des Triangles, too...

Hilary Syddall said...

I can't see the stitching but I see your Mum is reading the first of the Talent books!

Carolyn Ford said...

No, it's definitely Tracy's Corn and Beans - I think they published the pattern in Just Cross Stitch, or was it CS&N?

Love Anne McCaffrey books - Sisu, it's part of a whole series, starts with some short stories in Get Off the Unicorn, then moves into the volumes with To Ride Pegasus, Pegasus in Flight and Pegasus in Space. They are all about the rise of organized/recognized Talent on Earth. I think they are early history for the Rowan/Tower&Hive series. = )

Melissa Hicks said...

Absolutely correct Caroline!

I prefer these to the Pern series ..... how scandalous is that !!!!

Melissa Hicks said...

Rosanne - the Internet was against me this morning but a present will be coming out to you shortly !!!

Rosanne Derrett said...

Oooooh, thanks Mel. I need to get another copy because I saved the TGOS issue it's in is only saved on my work PC and, of course, I've been off work for months. I gave up my fully kitted only copy earlier in the year as part of a draw. Talk about dumb!

Rosanne Derrett said...

Rat's! That's more books to buy from Amazon. I like the Pern books, love Acorna and Rowan/Tower & Hive but this will be sacrilege - the series I love most is Crystal Singers (Killashandra/Crystal Singer/Crystal Line).

Melissa Hicks said...

This is in a sense the prequel series to the Tower and the Hive series .....

Anita B said...

Great start on your new project, Mel - looks intriguing!

Sisu Lull said...

I loved the Crystal Singer series, but I think I only read 2 of them. I haven't a clue where they are though. I have always been more likely to loan my books out to other people then to let them mildew in a box somewhere, so I may not even have them. Might be worth looking them up for a re-read. I loved Acorna too, thought I admit to buying it ONLY because she was the author. It was on a clearance rack, hardcover for $6. I thought, "C'mon, a book about a unicorn girl? How can this NOT be cheesy."
But it surprised me and I must admit to having read it 3 times now, LOL.

I think the Talent books are some of my favourites too. I just LOVE the cover I have for Pegasus in Flight. It's a Michael Whelan and I love the way Peter is there sitting on nothing. I've put a copy of the art up here (http://randomthoughts.co.nz/corner/covers/pif.jpg). I hadn't realised what an 80s haircut Peter has until I looked at it again!

Has anyone read "Restoree". It was my first McCaffrey and still holds a special place in my heart and on my bookshelf.

Sisu Lull said...

Yes, I did! I remember enjoying it, but don't remember many details. I can't even remember if it was the man or the woman that was restored. I do remember that she descibed the compound so well that I felt I could 'see' it. That makes it much easier to get into a book.
I also enjoyed the Well of Souls series (gave them to my little bro, can't remember the author) and Titan and Wizard by John Varley. Not sure if that series had a name or if there were more than 2 books. I borrowed those from an aunt back in 1988, LOL. My family passes around books all the time, so I keep only a few. I would keep a lot more if I had room. My own room + a stitching room + a library = My dream home.

Twana Bentley said...

I've read Restoree, but it was so long ago I don't remember much. My favorite was/is The Ship who Sang.

Carolyn Ford said...

Yes, I've read it - I think I've read most of AMcC's stuff at least once, except the newer Acorna books. Those I really dislike (sorry Sisu!) If I remember correctly, Restoree is about a woman who wakes up on another planet and has to hide the fact that she's in another body and then escape. Is that right?
I can't say I have a specific favorite of the AMcC series - I love a bunch of the Pern books, the Crystal Singer books and the Brain & Brawn series as well...must be why I've collected (and love to reread) most of them.

Sisu Lull said...

Sorry? No reason to be! Each to their own. There are some very popular books that were a snoozefest for me, so I understand. But, I didn't know there was another Acorna book/books. I read the original and figured it was a stand alone. And I don't know what the Brain and Brawn series is either. Looks like next time I can scrape 2 nickels together, I need to hit the bookstore!

Anita B said...

Sisu, according to the Anne McCaffrey website, there seem to be a whole series of the Acorna books. I'm still reading through the Pern series, but I'll probably get to these eventually.

Nice work! looks good.

Tracy H said...

Thats embarrasing - I couldn't guess it, but I can see now knowing the answer. LOL!

Lori M. said...

Very pretty!

Melissa Hicks said...

{giggle} .... {snicker} ... oh dear! Sorry Tracy!

Sisu Lull said...

Pretty! Very subtle variations in the thread color. What manufacturer are they?

Twana Bentley said...

Colors are very pretty! Are you using the pattern colors?

Karen R said...

Looks great - love the way these colors go together. I think I'll like this a lot more as I see your WIP progress :)

Nancy Murdock said...

No more trains??? What will entertain us now? Nice progress on this piece.

Melissa Hicks said...

Its the Carries Creations recommended thread pack. Mum bought two sets when she put her last order in with Carrie ....

Melissa Hicks said...

Gosh you me *not* to be entertaining without the commute? Trust me I'll find *something* to whinge about and make you all smile .....

Laura Landis said...

very pretty start, Mel! Love the soft colors
