I only want three things today ....

1. A new digestive system
2. A full eight hours uninterrupted sleep
3. Death to all people who claim their products are gluten-free, when they are not.

Is that too much to ask for?

Wow, you got hold of something else, or is this a continuation of the other day's?

This is getting ridiculous....If you could sue for each time you had an "episode", you'd be filthy rich by now.
What was it this time?
Poor love...sends gentle hugs with healing vibes attached.

Death might be a bit severe - how about just wishing them a nice bout of intestinal distress themselves. So sorry to hear you are suffering. I wish they would be accountable for their fraud or stupidity or whatever it is that keeps sneaking into their process.

Patties brand gluten free apple pies

I wanted to treat myself after dealing with two dickheads yesterday.

I'm not known for my "tolerance" at the best of times :) :)

At work, tired and grumpy, and have to put on my game face for more meetings and cudgel my brain into actually functioning. Wonder if I can risk ingesting coffee this morning ......

But yes Tracy you are correct - sometimes its just mistakes do happen. I always let the companies know politely so they can retest their samples for that particular batch number and do a recall if necessary. Another company has done a recall before when one of *their* ingredient suppliers changed from gluten-free to low gluten without notice.

I think my system is still recovering from the last bout less than a week ago so its more sensitive than it usually is ...

Say they have built a special 100% Gluten free environment..I think they need to know it's contaminated...

Melissa Hicks said...

I did send them an email this morning with the batch number so they can retest their samples ....

Oh no! Sounds awful.

Melissa Hicks said...

Nah - in reality just an upset tummy and associated lack of sleep :)

Natalie Mikesell said...

Well, I understand the lack of sleep from problems. I have been having a lot of pain latelyh and not been able to sleep either. I hope to remedy that tonight. Going to a conference tomorrow and it is only 20 minutes from my house so I am able to sleep in a little bit as long as the kids sleep in too.

Melissa Hicks said...

Sounds good - good luck :)

Hope your tummy has found some rest after all, love! That is hard luck!

(((((((((((Mel))))))))))

I'll have to go into some careful research on where to buy food that you can actually eat next year! Scares me a bit, too, but I think there are a number of specialised shops around.

Melissa Hicks said...

Ah its fine - just feed me meat veg fruit nuts etc.

Anything that is prepared from raw ingredients is completely fine - its when I buy prepackaged preprocessed food that I get in trouble. I think the universe is forcing me back into healthy eating habits again .....

Rosanne Derrett said...

Mel, when you get to England, there are loads of places to get gluten free products. Better eating habits are good - I've had to rething my habits recently too so it can only be good.

Mariann Mäder said...

Well, that's good to know, so we can go farmer's market scouring in Bern! You'll love it!

ARGH! My Aunt suffers with this too. I've seen how painful it can be. Lots of good thoughts headed your way!

Sorry to hear about this Mel! Tummy problems are no fun (I speak from much experience here). I hope that you feel better soon and have a good night's sleep.

Melissa Hicks said...

Thanks everyone - I slept the sleep of the dead for nearly 7 hours and still feel like something the cat dragged in. This is normal and I'll be fine over the weekend ...

Oooh Mariann - I love farmers markets :) :)

Yuck. Since when did companies not do regular quality control and testing. I would be inclined to threaten the company with court action. Perhaps you had better keep a sample of everything you eat in future so that if you do get upset by it then you can demand redress. Preferably of the monetary kind.

Gentle hugs coming in the hope you feel better soon.

Melissa Hicks said...

For an upset tummy and a few days of feeling like something the cat dragged in ... can't be bothered.

All I have to do is post it to the gf list here in Aust and the mindless chooks will never buy the product again.

kay jones said...

Now thats the kind of action I thoroughly approve of

Karen R said...

Cost reduction - testing really is just a waste of time, you know, especially when the profit margin is on the line... Or, at least, that's where my software engineers stand. Stupid wankers...

Claire EJ said...

Testing really should be done especially if the GF list has the power to not buy the product again...consumer choice and all that...

Melissa Hicks said...

I presume testing *is* done. I know most of the larger companies keep back a small amount of each batch sent out to repeat testing if there are any issues.

There are ninnies on the GF list, like most lists (the BAPXS set excluded) who if one person complains, will *never* buy that product again regardless of their own experiences with it ..... these are the same people who watch tabloid television "current affairs" and believe everything exactly as it is presented!

The other thing Gothy is that over here they are a LOT better at having food for people with Gluten intolerances/allergies than those with nut allergies! I think it is me that will be having problems finding food *sigh*

Melissa Hicks said...

Kinda. I guess now's not the time to point out that gluten-free in Australia means less that 0.5% gluten in the product.

In the UK the ruling for gluten-free is under 3%.

That's why you get gluten-free croissants and we don't.

Mind you I still want to risk it and try some ... I miss croissants soooo much!

Try and book some time at Julia's place, she'll stuff you to the gills with divine home cooked grub as glutten free as you like.
