I am a sheep .....
The Rules:
A.) Go to http://musicoutfitters.com/
B.) Enter the year you graduated from high school in the search function and get the list of 100 most popular songs IN THE US of that year (the top link).
C.) Green the songs you like, Red the ones you REALLY hate.
So I simplified the rules ..... anything not green or red I can't remember or don't care about or simply don't know.

I feel very old now. Don't recall many of these and those I do are mostly noise! lol
I was also a poodle rock lover at the time, hence the many many Def Leppard, Poison, Whitesnake, Bon Jovi etc in my repertoire at the time ....
God I love this year - we must be similar years.
Taking a wild guess - Madonna's Greatest Hits is not CD on your Christmas list!
oh hOw I love the Cure!
Love the description! I thought the Def Leppard track was 88 not 89 because of where I was working at the time! 88-90, I was at uni, after that my memory problems kick in.
Baaaaaaaaaa
So, no Milli Vanilli, huh??? LOL
If you ever see G'n'R's Paradise City video, I'm in it :) The B&W parts are at the Monsters of Rock concert at Donnington Park, England - in the crowd shots (100, 000 of us - I'm easy to pick out :) ), there's a tiny tree in the upper-left corner. Next to that is a guy puking on his shoes (umm, this was at like 11 am - bloody amateur)), and I am to his left and back 10 feet :) Not puking on my or anyone else's shoes, btw.... Though if I had been drinking, I probably would have been considerably warmer....
Wow - I wonder where I was in 1989???? Although the earworm of Welcome to the Jungle really fits in this office today... lots of Marketing people trying to pull crap out of their butts... and not considering the impact on revenue or the customer's bill... which makes me the bad girl and the "negative one" when I ask questions and point out potential problems...
If you look at Rachel's 1988 list (hey she must be one year older than me) you will see the album was indeed released in 1988 but each individual song was released at different times, this one being the following year.
This was my favourite tape that year - I knew all they lyrics by heart (still do most of them) and I wore this cassette tape OUT !!!!!
Ooooh I've got to track a copy of that down !!!!!!!
Your mentioning Alice Cooper's Poison made me grin... I was a huge Alice Cooper fan up until the original band broke up and then everything he did was practically rubbish until he brought out Poison. First time I listened to his music again (though not for long)...
For much of the list I have to agree with Jim - mostly noise, though there are a few others I'd very much agree with you, like the Simply Red song
