OK need help in being gracious

Ellen sent me this chart as a RAK.

It is the epitome of everything I hate about cross stitch!  Its a bad art conversion taken out of its context and its chock full of confetti stitching.

I was thinking of writing some thing like.

Thank you Ellen for your RAK.  As you say in your note, this chart was not in my Lust List (as it is not a chart I would have bought myself) but it is a really sweet gesture on your part.

Thank you very much for thinking of me.

Is that OK - or is it still coming across as being mean.  I'm trying to say thank you because it was a sweet gesture, but I don't want to encourage her to send more !!!!   I really CANNOT see me stitching these ever.

I thought I would ask for your opinions - because you lot would tell me if I was simply being mean and would help with better wording ...

Nah, you have me as Clearstardesigns..not my personal name...that's the problem here.
Um, I'm not quite sure what you could say. "It's a lovely chart but really not my kind of thing...would you mind if I RAK'd it to someone else?"...I bet Jodie's kid Emily would love it...snorts

Ok got you in here under both names - phew.

Oooh good thinking 99 !!! That's far more to the point. I am sooo crap at not being forthright and honesty, and yet I always seem to get in trouble for not being "sensitive enough" ....

I can do moderator slam down posts all day long but I need help in writing a reply to an unwanted gift {sigh}

OK how about ...

Thank you very much for thinking of me as I do love cats.

I don't think you're being mean at all if it stops her from RAKing you stuff like this again...but...difficult.

Hi Mel
Maybe ask if you could pass it on to some one else, thank her for it, also telling her Your Mum is the one that does all these types of cat patterns that you have in your home. someting nice that will not affend her

Well d;uh - that's why I'm asking you for help - I'm crap at the "not offending" part :) :)

Good call in making you the scapegoat thanks :) :) Hey do you want the chart?

Not at the moment, but if you don't know anyone else who would like it, I would take it and probably stitch it up one day.

Several years ago I would probably have stitched the tabbies, but those Siamese faces freak me out...I still think Jodie..

I want some!!!! I don't buy ice cream - if I did, I'd eat it :)

Melissa Hicks said...

Its churning away right now - how long will it take you to get here?

Claire EJ said...

I bet you and Alison have eaten it all by now...what flavour did you make? and what film did you see?

Just home now! We saw Indiana Jones 4 and then had hot chocolate and discussed the movie and life in general until she was called away for taxi duties for her daughter :)

We both loved the movie. we agreed its the type of movie we both call "a rollicking good adventure". Indie and his companions are superheroes :) the way they escape situations is totally implausible, you don't just suspend disbelief - you lock in a jar and throw it into a volcano in Mordor.

But it was sooo much fun!!! And we both loved all the references to the previous movies .... I will get this on DVD to watch all the making of and special effects documentaries .....

Exactly what I thought on Monday....so cute how they set it up for the kid to continue if the franchise wanted to..
Really well put together film with so many silly little bits that I need to see it again. I think I enjoyed it even more for not having seen an Indy film in several years. it made it feel fresh over again.

Thanks for the tip Claire - we've been debating re-watching all of the older ones before we go, but haven't had time. Hopefully this week we'll get to see the new on!

I rewatched Indy 3 a week before I went and I'm glad I did because otherwise I would have missed some of the in-jokes I think :)
