All posted! (mostly)

To paraphrase Marvin:

"Post Office, don't talk to me about post office".

Weill I've now posted off all international and domestic cards, gifts and swaps. In the last two days between packaging materials and actual postal costs I've spent over $200 at the post office.

No - that does *not* include purchasing the actual cards and goodies that were posted!

Pity Ramen noodles contain gluten :) Looks like boiled rice for me until Wednesday :) Nah its not *quite* that bad but there's no more Christmas shopping being done now until next weekend (I need my pay on Wednesday before I can even consider food, decorations, a tree etc).

So its house cleaning for a couple of hours, braving the Post Office for one final parcel this afternoon (now I have the address - thank you!) and then a quiet shopping-free few days .... might even get some stitching done ?????

;) LOL! I have to head out this weekend to do some shopping, just don't have anyone to shop with! That always makes time go by much better than braving the crowds alone.

Oh no! In a crowded situation like a shopping mall at Christmas I'd rather be on my own. I can just be in my own space, cope with the crowds and get in and out of the shops I want.

Ni having to worry about someone else screaming or whining because the queues are so long - or worse yet spending hours in stores that are not on my list and I don't have any interest in (like hardware stores).

I can cope with crowds and delays as long as its just me. As soon as I have someone else with me I get worried that they will get antsy or irritated or any number of other negative and destructive emotions .....

nope - in situations like this - just let me go and do it on my own.

Speaking of which - ALL are now posted!

And I've bought my first Christmas tree ever - I think its a Norway Spruce - I lost the little tag on the way home. He's tiny only about 2 foot high - a living tree in a pot. Apparently he's a slow grower so if I keep him potted he'll only grow a little bit each year. He's gorgeous and I'm going to call him Hector.

I'm off to decorate him shortly :)

Do we get to see a picture of Hector in all his Yule glory? :-D, Hmm shopping - I might have to send Mark out to brave the shops on his own next weekend (although I might go along and stay in a local wine bar guarding the shopping he gradually brings back LOL - maybe even take some stitching so the time goes well).

I'll get mum to take some pics with her digital camera while she is here and then I can upload them - if I take any with my 35mm then I might have finished the film to post them in July next year {grin}

Actually Hilary that sounds like the best idea ever! I'll go sit in a bar and pay someone to brave the crowds for me .... ohhh such a "good" idea !!!!!

Hector?!?! Good grief.

I *like* Hector - wasn't that the name of the crotchety out laird in Monarch of the Glen ???

Actually you're right - he is a Norway Spruce so I suppose I need a Norwegian name - and ideas anyone?

Its got to be something I can pronounce and only one or two syllables otherwise I'll end up contracting it anyway ..... a historical name would be good .....

Cnut? No he was Danish wasn't he ????

Gotta be Olaf.........

Melissa Hicks said...

Olaf? Olaf? Nah he doesn't seem to like Olaf - any other suggestions?

Not even Olaf the troll???

Melissa Hicks said...

Hector is *not* a troll !!!! He's cute and lovable and young ...

well according to the site you sent:

Hector Greek Steadfast
Harald (Norwegian Acceptable boy name) Mighty General

So if its not to be Hector, then it might be Harald .....

Well, glad you got everything mailed... uh.. ya gotta know, I've not even been shopping yet! Suppose that's what I'm off to do this afternoon, now that I've recovered from working six days straight AND my concert... getting old just sucks... LOL

And Hector/Harald sounds lovely! I haven't had a tree in years. I'm not even sure I know where the Christmas ornaments are! That was Vick's job... and even he had fallen down on the job for a few years... hhmm... wonder if they are in the spare room...

And Herald fits with the overall Christmas season (as in "Hark! Harold the angel sang..." [VBG])

Hillary, I love your idea.. I think I'm going to try that on J next year! (We're done with mall stuff for this year.)

Usually when we do shopping as a group, we'll designate a meeting place and time and then wander off in our own directions. Now that everyone has a cell phone, it's that much easier, as we can text or call and say "this line is huge, I'm going to be late".

Melissa Hicks said...

Well lets see, Paul doesn't have a mobile phone, Dad doesn't use his, mum can't hear hers ring in her bag in a crowded shopping mall - and I meet Alison in a coffee shop - so usually whoever gets there first has a coffee and her head stuck in a book so we don't even realise the other one is late until we either finish the book or stomach growls louder than the shopping centre muzak :)

Melissa Hicks said...

That's it - he's remaining Hector !!!!!!!

Melissa Hicks said...

Teegs - I'm sure you read *why* I got everything done when I did :) Cause there was no option - otherwise I would have continued to procrastinate further :)

Paula Hubert said...

Me, I kinda like Hector anyway... lol

Melissa Hicks said...

He knows his name now - I'm sure he understand when I talk to him and about him :)
