Clothes! Why do people buy me clothes ????

Finally visited Paul and his mum after work today - to find out that they bought me clothes for Christmas. WHY ??? what part of "Don't buy me any Christmas presents" and "NEVER buy me clothes!" is ambiguous ????

Why do people feel the need to change us to what they want us to be ??? I was quite happily dressed in all black work clothes at the library - but no - they needed to dress me up in a hideous top that shows every roll of fat on my torso and three quarter length cargo pants in beige.

Beige? I wear black and jewel tone colours. ONLY that is all - ever! Even my jeans are black or faded black !!!!

Why do people need to change me ?????

{sigh}

Sweetheart, you do NOT have to wear them. Why do you feel you have to? You made your feelings quite clear to them and they ignored them. Doesn't wearing the clothes tell them that they can ignore your wishes? Love you, anyway.

Maybe they left the tags on them so you can return them for ones you will wear? Or is that too much to hope for? And like dancingkauri said, you don't have to wear them :)

Interesting choice of colours with your skin tones........How about a good pot of DYE!!!!
I like the shape of the top and the neckline and that they even got you into them and TOOK PHOTOS!
Cargo pants, great for working in the yard ...nobody says you have to wear them outside the house!!

Oh good! So I'm not over-reacting - those colours really do not suit me! I already know that style of body hugging top is just wrong wrong wrong! However I do like the neckline ....

It will be going into the back of my cupboard for a very long time - maybe when I drop some weight I might redye it ....

The scariest part was they *both* thought it was the best outfit they've ever seen me in !!!! And I used to defer to Paul's colour sense in just about all other matters ....

Hmm - maybe they could accidently go in the wash with something black that leeches dye (you know - like a dye pot!!) My mother has finally learnt after 30 something years (ever since I made my own clothes choices), that floral/patterns and I don't mix! and neither do pastals. For Christmas I got a wonderful long sleeved black top (and when she saw it on she went and bought two more in khaki and purple!)

What a beautiful smile you have and I do like the neckline. That said... when my mother would give me clothes that I really didn't want and didn't suit me, I put it in the back of my closet for a suitable length of time and then donated them to DI (our local version of GoodWill). I figure that someone who has to shop there would appreciate finding something new. Gift are supposed to give you pleasure and it pleased me greatly to pass the clothes on to someone who would benefit from them. *huggles for the family ignoring your wishes though* I'm a very big girl and have to be careful about styles of clothes and it just irks me when someone thinks they can dress me better than I can :/

Oops in the midst of my ranting I forgot to say: Thank you !!!

Thanks Hilary - for now its going into the back of the cupboard !!!! The cut just doesn't suit. Maybe when I've lost some more weight I might be able to do something with it - but to be honest - this kind of form-fitting stretch knit top just doesn't suit anyone over a size 12 ....

BTW I'm a size 16 and they bought a size 22 - goodness only knows what a *proper* size would have looked like .....

Hmmm.. I agree about the neckline, but also the colors. They just don't work on you! ALL sorts of good suggestions here, but if it was me and it was possible, I'd look to exchange them for something you WILL wear and be happy while doing so!

Thanks Paula - but they removed all of the tags before giving them to me - and I've already washed the clothes .... oh well - back of the cupboard it is!

Buggerit. Tags should NEVER be removed when giving a gift. It almost guarantees it won't be right for the giftee!!!
I still say go with dye.

In February (as long as I'm still keeping up with my bills) I might put some money towards more casual clothes. Buy things *I* like and suit me. The over-sized T shirts I've been wearing for years really are getting too old and crappy to be seen out of the house.

Mostly I have a very good wardrobe of work-wear - because I usually work six days a week - but times like the Xmas break bring it home to me that I do need a wider range of clothes for casual wear - and if *I* pick them out, then maybe, just maybe these guys will get a clue :) Or of course I could just tell Paul to go away forever ... and that would remove the problem entirely :)

I will go down this road *if* when I lose some weight this shirt actually fits me in a way I like. I'm afraid that I just don't like the body hugging style when I don't have a body hugging figure!
