Teegs and DK

OK I have no idea how to PM more than one person at a time and I wanted to contact both of you and I don;t have both emails here at work - so sending a blog and allowing *only* you two to see it - seemed to be the best way.

Diane, Teegs has been reading a Mercedes Lackey alternate universe series set during the end of the reign of Henry VIII and she's been txting me, asking about the language used.

I suggest she talks to you - as you have as good a grasp on the language as I do (if not better) and you actually *do* read Lackey !!!!

Any chance you could email / PM / txt Teegs?  Its a conversation for you two I think ...

I don't know about your network but I'm with Vodaphone and international txt messages cost the same as local ones for me.

Hugs to you both.

Happy to chat with Teegs any time. I'm with Telstra tho so texting me may be expensive.
I presume we are talking about "This Scepter'd Isle"?

Actually, it's the second one, uh.. hang on, lemme find it.. "Ill Met by Moonlight".. the phrase was "clipped and kissed"... I'm guessing it meant hugged and kissed. Mary sees Harry (who's grown now) hugging Elizabeth (who's around 10) in a garden in the moonlight. Usually ML doesn't use phrases that throw me like that, but that one just caught me off guard.

Hmm, here is where I go green with jealousy. All my Lackeys are in paperback. This one has only just come out in hardcover here, so I woun't get it for a while yet. Can you give me the full sentence? It's not sounding familiar to me yet. With Misty's background, it's bound to be genuine IF the editors didn't change it.

It *is* genuine - its just that its from Chaucer! And given the context Chaucer uses it in, I wouldn't like to think that Lackey is becoming another Philippa Gregory ...

Aucassin and Nicolete:
When Nicolete heard Aucassin, right so came she unto him, for she was not far away. She passed within the lodge, and threw her arms about his neck, and clipped and kissed him.
"Fair sweet friend, welcome be thou."
"And thou, fair sweet love, be thou welcome."
So either kissed and clipped the other, and fair joy was them between.

Tale of Ceyx & Alcyone from Gower
She clipped and kissed in such a way As she formerly used to do. Her wings for her two arms She took, and her hard bill For her soft lips, and hence very often She endeavors in her bird's form To carry out the wife's consolatory role

Decameron of Boccaccio
The girl, who was neither iron nor adamant, readily enough lent herself to the pleasure of the abbot, who, after he had clipped and kissed her again and again, mounted upon the monies pallet, and having belike regard to the grave burden of his dignity and the girl's tender age and fearful of irking her for overmuch heaviness, bestrode not her breast, but set her upon his own and so a great while disported himself with her.

Well, if you email your snail mail address to me, I could probably be convinced to part with it. It's paperback, so really, you should get it fairly soon there, but I'd be willing to part with it. The only Lackey that I really keep a close eye on (as in plan to keep) are all the Herald books. I just adore those "horses".

Diane Call said...

Would you? I can grovel very well. Please, please, beautiful Teegs...
Yep, love the "horses", but also love the Bardic tales of Eric Banyon. Hmmm, maybe it's the thought of elven steed motor bikes. Currently rereading Storm Breaking for the umpteenth time. Lackeys are my "comfort books". Oh Mel, the bathroom issue has raised it's head again as the builder tries to reneg on the deal he made in the court here we go again...

Is Eric the modern Bard? It's been a while, so I'm not sure I remember well. Ties to the Seelie(sp) Court, attends Julliard? Man, it's been quite a while since I read any of those. I don't think I'm caught up on him... I can see my book pile growing... last book I read of his, I think he'd moved into his own apartment and acquired a Gargoyle.. is there a newer one?

Builders... ugh..

Oh you're kidding !!!! Have complaints been put in with the Masters Builders association? Perhaps you need to go to a media outlet .... or consumer advocate association ....

Yes, we complained to the MBA, but they are still happily telling prospective clients that there are no outstanding complaints against him. We called his own consultant and he is now siding with us, but we expect he will make us go back to court AGAIN . Steve tells me this morning that I am smelling sick again, and I am back to dreaming of my family, Lynnaire, this time.

Yes, Teegs, Eric is the modern bard and I adore the gargoyle. I have been looking for one to put on my front steps ever since reading the first book he is in. I think I have even found one, I just don't have the money to get it . Perhaps I should get it to scare the life out of the builder! Mad Maudlin is the last I have in that series.
