What American accent do you have ....

Well It appears us Aussies are actually from New York - who would have guessed .... Does this mean I'd be understood if I ever visited the place?

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Northeast

Judging by how you talk you are probably from north Jersey, New York City, Connecticut or Rhode Island. Chances are, if you are from New York City (and not those other places) people would probably be able to tell if they actually heard you speak.

The Inland North
Philadelphia
The South
The Midland
Boston
North Central
The West

Now that is funny!!! LOL!! I would probably understand you (watch a lot of Aussie TV) but I can never understand New Yorkers when they talk fast! lol!

LOL both of you - I'm sure I'd understand you both, but then again, I'm not a New Yawkah, I'm from Upstate - and here are the quiz results to prove it [VBG]:

What American accent do you have? Your Result: The Inland North You may think you speak "Standard English straight out of the dictionary" but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like "Are you from Wisconsin?" or "Are you from Chicago?" Chances are you call carbonated drinks "pop."Philadelphia The Northeast The Midland The South Boston The West North Central What American accent do you have?

Well.. imagine that.. born and raised in Northwest Missouri and I apparently sound as if I come from the Inland North. Claire? Paula? Whatcha think? *I* think I sound disgustingly Midwestern, with a touch of the South on occasion. And no, I don't say pop, if it's carbonated, it's a coke, or soda.

Well, at least mine fits. I've spent more time in Jersey and NY State tha anywhere elseover there.
You don't sound southern, Teegs, but more north maybe than west LOL

No "pop" here, either.. and well, since you don't sound like you have an accent to me, I guess maybe it fits? But then again, I spend so much time talking to folks in the Midwest for work, that I may not notice it anymore!

Well I think its an Aussie thing to simply called them "soft drinks".

If its un-carbonated, just plain water with flavouring in it - we call them "cordials" which get really confusing when you talk over the net to someone who thinks a cordial is a fortified liqueur !!!!!

That would be an ex-convict thing LOL. We call anything a soft drink that comes out of a can unless it's beer/cider type stuff. Talk about confuse Donna first time around. And us too when we first went to stay in the US. We didn't know a Soda was anything in a can LOL. We offer people a "can of coke" and they offer us a soda!! Soda is the yucky stuff which comes as a mixer in a can.
Cordial.....here, we mainly call it "squash" as in Orange squash.

No kidding! A cordial here is either Amarretto (sp? I can drink it, just can't spell it... ) or my beloved Irish Mist. Any kind of liqueur (and I think we spell that differently, as well, but I can't remember) that's .. well.. I don't know how they are made, but generally they are pretty potent and sweet. My Irish Mist is a whiskey liqueur with a touch of vanilla along with other things I haven't picked out yet. It still has a bit of the whiskey bite, but is much smoother than "real" whiskey.

Catch me after I've been around someone with a really heavy Southern accent and then say that! LOL.. Should have heard me for a couple of days after we got home from Texas. I will admit I'm easily influenced by accents, but for some reason, as much as I adore yours, I don't seem to be able to pick it up naturally. The phrasing, yes, but not the accent.

I can empathise with that one Teegs - I pick up accents unconsciously! Gets very embarrassing at times :)_ of course I lose them within half an hour of finishing the conversation :)

Yup - definitely an ex-con thing :) For us Soda is the same thing - a yucky mixer :)
