Again for the Knitters

You know the Cricket has hit a quiet period when the commentators start discussing the relative merits of cable stitched vests over machine made .....

Yes, I heard that too.

Detailed discussion about the pigeons are always a giveaway too.

Melissa Hicks said...

Yup - and the comparison of pigeons vs seagulls :)

BTW wasn't Ponting a bad loser when he got out today?

Hugs - she who is now about to iron another finish!

That must be the cricket equivalent of Throwball commentators discussing the physics behind a groin pull....

Melissa Hicks said...

Or a baseball commentator picking out the hotties in the crowd?

Now you know why I do not watch the cricket - I remember ac caommentator going on about a tree in the background and new it was not for me!

Melissa Hicks said...

Exactly why it is perfect for stitching!

When it bloody well comes on! The TV Guide said it started at 8:30am and its now nearly 10am and still no coverage!

To quote Tim from the Goodies: Its just not Cricket!

I didn't see Ponting's dismissal. He was still in when I went to put Marcus to bed and that kept me away from the TV for quite a while.

Yes, summer is about the three C's - cricket, cross stitch and Christmas.

I remember being amused one day years ago when they had just got the software to let them put the player's names under them on the screen. The commentators labelled a seagull as C. Gull.

That is so weird to think of - like I suppose it is for you to think about us Northern Hemispherians in the cold at Christmas. I saved all of the wonderful cards from last years, and looked through them yesterday as I was putting up the tree - love all of the Aus & NZ ones!

Melissa Hicks said...

Oh gosh yes! I remember that !!!!!!!! Thought it was sooo funny at the time - gosh that was years ago!

Don't forget to leave room for this year's :)

You are sooooo right Kerry!

I remember Christmas holidays as a kid being stuck out on the stock route watching the sheep (because we were in a drought and there was no food left in the paddocks). all I had for company was a transistor radio tuned to ABC AM listening to the cricket commentary, a motorbike and one of the working dogs.

Until I fell off the bike - then mum or dad would drive the jeep down and I sat in that for shade instead ...

Wasn't allowed to take books with me because I would get too engrosed in the book and forget to watch the sheep.

Over 100F heat regularly all day and still in the 90F at nights - ridiculous way to live but I didn't know any different. I'd die of heat exhaustion these days.

The last few years the time between Christmas and New Years has been sitting on my bum in front of the TV in air conditioning where possible, eating cold meat leftovers watching the cricket, cross stitching madly and drinking the occasional ice cold beer.

This is going to change this year with Mr S and Alison both here during that time. Will be doing host duties and fiance duties visiting Mr S's friends with him.

I believe Mr S is even looking into tickets for the actual Test Match! I've never attended a real life international cricket match before! So Kerry you might get to see me in the stands :) :)

Hugs

Whoo-hoo! I hope you get to the test match.

I don't think I've been to a test match, only one day games.

My claim to cricketing fame is that I was in the stands the day of the underarm ball incident.

Enjoy the afternoon's cricket, Mel. Dave is taking Marcus to the library and I need to take the chance to get a nap while I can. Catch you later.

Just proves another point...cricket is so boring that even the commentators have nothing better to talk about.

Wait til the Tennis season starts dear :) I'm sure we can find as many things to say about Tennis commentators :) :)

Well in between all the television ads they splash over the top of the tennis coverage .....

Claire EJ said...

Would it help if I said my favourite commentator is an Aussie? and my second fave moved to Aus year before last?

Melissa Hicks said...

Yes darling - but it is still Tennis !! {grin}
