Deadline = Motivation

On Wednesday for some insane reason I decided to stitch some presents for Christmas for some friends whom I had no idea what else to get for them.

Some panicking, raiding of stash, quickly repurchasing a missing   chart, not quite to quickly purchasing missing threads .... and I've made a start.

I'm doing Witches as Friends by Moonflower Designs for my Alison my real life best friend, and yes she is a Pagan and proud of it.

As this is a small stitch I have it mostly finished.  Just waiting for one skein of Crescent Colours Finley Gold to arrive in my mail box to finish off the broomstick's bristles.  Then this little one is done.

I'm doing Coffin Buzz by Plum Street Samplers for her daughter Jane.  Jane is an 18 year old Goth Girl who has a passion for high quality coffee.

This is the Halloween freebie by Plum Street Samplers and although it is a monochromatic piece, I've been having a play.  I'm stitching it on Silkweaver's Boo linen.  Using Caron wildflowers Storm Clouds for the lettering.  Using Caron Waterlillies Pebbles for the headstone header and footer and then probably two Kreinik #4 braids for the other bits and bobs.

Then I'm going to start another composer for my Dad, in the same series as the Mozart piece I did a few years ago....

Both of these are still WIPs and Dad's isn't even started - but I will get there.....

Just as long as they finished in time to find a framer NEXT SATURDAY there wont be any problems ......

Jen just does not 'get' the importance of caffeine. My body does not function till the levels are sufficiently high!

Coffee - the day starts when the first one is done!!!

Phew I am tired just thinking about it! Just realised the words are there! I am a bit thick - * wanders of looking for coffee!

I understand about caffeine - I've just turned my back on it. I don't actually like the TASTE of coffee any more - so I don't drink it. Nor do I wish to be slave to its chemical control of my body - I have enough of that already with chocolate :)

The best addiction I managed to kick was the dreaded nicotine. Been free of it for three years now but the damage has been done sadly.

As for my other addictions, there's no way I'm giving up Jen.

Um does that include the one for your Dad Mel!, these look great by the way :-)

I've always said chocolate and being with somone you love were two worthy addictions :)

And its a sad fact that the former is but a facsimile of the latter.

That's the aim Hilary! Alison's has about an hour tyo go on it. Jane's has probably two night's work - so depends how long it will take to stitch Dad's.

Eep - good luck then

Fun pieces Mel! Is there a link to the Plum Street one? That would be wonderful for my office...

Good luck getting everything done by next Saturday!! The two started look very nice and I don't think you should have any problems getting them done. :) As for the coffee, it's Diet Pepsi for me. lol Love the smell of a good coffee, just not the taste.

Okay - now why does this sound like one of my posts??? Maybe because, as of right now, I don't really have anything scheduled :) So it's your turn!! Wishing you speedy needles!!

Paula - it's on the Plum Street blog (link is on the website and the post is at the end of July that has the link to the pdf. How do I know? Because this made it onto my 'must do' list and I've already downloaded it!

Melissa Hicks said...

Oh thanks Rosanne - I knew I got it from the blog, but I could not find the actual post with the pdf when I was writing this update last night. It appears I just didn't got back far enough.

Am yet to taste Montain Dew with caffiene - our version doesn't contain any.

I'm always teasing Stephen who drinks Coke Zero. I call it his chemical caffeine. I don't think there are any ingredients in these drinks except water and artificial chemicals .....

Sisu Lull said...

First 3 ingredients on Mountain Dew are 1. Water, 2. High Fructose Corn Syrup, 3. Orange Juice.
See, orange juice. Healthy morning beverage.

PMSL - I bet you could not type that with a straight face :) :) :)

Jane's is now finished. I'll iron and photograph tomorrow - off to bed now. Night all.

Congrats and thanks to the link to the chart! I have the blog in my Google Reader, but I know I added it after the date that this one was released.

Oh phew, I don't need to ask you for the chart when you finish it!
Cool pdf and perfect for Jane! Love it.
Good luck finding a framer whom you prefer over the last one.

In whose book is this healthy? In the brief period Mountain Dew was on sale here, I tried it and it made me so ill it was frightening. Between the orange juice, colouring and caffeine, I was landed in bed for 24 hours to recovery. I don't know about healthy - for me it has one of those toxic waste signs on it! Same goes for Red Bull - one can is OK but the second makes me sick to the stomach.

Rosanne Derrett said...

Yup Mel - lead me astray too - just looking at stash for a quickie finish once one of the biggies is done

Perhaps your version over there was concocted a little differently, but there is very little coloring added to it here. It gets most of it's color from the orange juice. Just about any processed food has more artificial coloring in it. Even the Wheat Thins sitting next to me have more, LOL. And if orange juice and caffeine have that kind of effect on you, I would avoid them anyway. But that is what being uniquely human is all about. There are many foods and beverages out there that I cannot stomach at all, yet someone must like them or they wouldn't be around. Like Coca Cola, liver, peas, blue cheese, Brussell's sprouts, and lobster. To name a few. Ick.

Claire EJ said...

I'm with you on the Lobster, Liver and Brussels...[shudders]

Melissa Hicks said...

Scarily I like the taste of Coca Cola. I just avoid it on health grounds - anything that is water sugar and chemicals cannot be good for you. The diet versions have water and chemicals - and that's not any better!

Melissa Hicks said...

Thanks! I'm going to take more time to select a framer this time. Part of the reason I want these finished so quickly and also why these are all for recipients within Australia....

Claire EJ said...

makes sense to me :)

Considering international airmail is taking 5-7 weeks to reach me - there's no way I could get anything framed and sent out in enough time. Not now :(

Oh my head is exploding - I detest sinusitis. Stephen's been working 60-70 hour weeks under pressure - so I'm worried about him too. He's going to fall down sometime shortly with some bug ....

Claire EJ said...

Poor love..hope you feel better ASAP. I know how that hurts. Mine is mild right now. Hoping it will behave.

I thought S had been quiet online. Hope he's ok.

Paula Hubert said...

{{Mel}} I just got finished with a weather/sinus pressure thing. I didn't realize that I'd sent it to you! Sorry...

Melissa Hicks said...

Tis OK honey - for some reason my sinusitis cleared up as soon as my period started :/

Melissa Hicks said...

I'm hoping he is fine now - the deadlines have now been met as of 10pm his time last night. Hopefully he can sleep in this morning and get back to "normal" hours .....

I still expect him to come down with a bug in the next couple of days ....
