Oh dear - you *must* be in the doldrums then :(

No, not so much today after Paula's gifty...just found the Octo's a little creepy.

Oooh, I love octopusses! They're amazing! Did you know that they actually have nine 'brains'? Yep, one in the main body and a further in each tentacle. They're able to open screw closures on glass containers and they can be trained to do quite impressive little tricks. Astounding if you consider that they don't even have bones :-)

How do you find these things, Mel? This one was precious!

I cannot tell a lie - Stephen sent it to me. He's spent the evening sending me pictures and links that make me go awwwwwww .....

And he's booked his plane ticket for Christmas - SQUEE!

Claire EJ said...

Cool.....
Will you see him before then?

Melissa Hicks said...

Probably not. For financial and work-related reasons. But its only six weeks away ......

I love the octopii. I giggled the whole way through which is quite an acheivement for me!

As for the C word - I abdicate from the whole season as it is way to stressful and depressing!

Karen R said...

Who knew octopi were so resourceful??? That was a very well-done piece! You notice how a cartoon Greek village looks remarkably like a real Greek village? :)

Don't mention the C-word - so far, I'm spending my C-word savings on car repairs :(

He's too sweet!!!

Mykonos, to be precise... I recognised it immediately, it's a goooooorgeous place!

Melissa Hicks said...

Oh my !!! I thought it was a generic stereotype. I need to get out and visit more places .....

Melissa Hicks said...

He actually likes cute things more than I do - and this is his way of doing what he can to keeping me happy and not sliding back into depression. He understands the illness better than I do ...

I want to get two in a tank now - do they come in cute pink and orange colours? With cute eyelashes ????

Mariann Mäder said...

Unfortunately they're pinkish grey, and as far as I know they are living preferrably solitary - I just saw from one of the zoo programs I follow on German tv that they keep individuals apart, because they need their own territory.

They also have to keep the tanks firmly closed, because the funny things can actually get out and 'walk' for a while. Then there's the danger for them to die because they dry out. But they can go out of the water for short whiles.

Melissa Hicks said...

Ah! That's kinda how our axolotl died! Arry slithered out of his tank and headed for the nearest body of water - the washing up water my ex left in the sink after doing the dishes. The detergent and other yucky things in the water affected Arry's protective coating and he died ....

Nah - ordinary octopii are ugly! There are these cute little ones we get here with really pretty blue rings :) :) :)

The octpus was grab a bird nooooooooooooooo

Melissa Hicks said...

Maybe they both dropped into the ocean and lived happily every after :)

Rachel Cox said...

ok I'll buy that!!!

Melissa Hicks said...

Hey that's my belief and I'm sticking to it until I see a sequel!

Rachel Cox said...

Hee Hee , I like you thinking!

Melissa Hicks said...

Yeah I'm back :) Back to being me.

Now I'd better actually get some work done before I get sprung :) :)

Good Night to the Europeans, I'll see the Northern Americans and Australasians at lunch :)

Very cute. Even though they were hexapus. Or would that be hexapii? Only 6 arms.
And Mariann is right about keeping 2 in a tank. They are very territorial, and cannibalistic. And they can not only change their color, but their texture, almost instantly. I saw an octopus on TV the other day that decided he didn't want to be filmed anymore and went from a smooth brown skin to red and white with rough skin and 'horns'. Right before he attacked the diver.

OK no Octopii or Hexapii for me!
